W EEKLY WISDOM

" Though young men faint and grow weary,
and youths stagger and fall,
They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength,
they will soar as with eagles' wings;
They will run and not grow weary,
walk and not grow faint. "
  -Isaiah 40:31

CRL Announces Publication of Vocation of the Agricultural Leader
Read the Document & Schedule a Workshop

Over the past three years Catholic Rural Life has worked with farmers, theologians, scientists and others involved in food production and caring for the land across the US and internationally to develop a resource entitled Vocation of the Agricultural Leader.

The Vocation of the Agricultural Leader project's objectives were three-fold:
1. to affirm the noble and dignified vocation of farming and of the work of men and women involved in agricultural production and get- ting food to our tables
2. to retrieve the notion of vocation, that farming is not just an occupation, but a calling from our Creator to a relationship and to till and to keep the earth
3. to inspire future generations of men and women to see how their faith informs both their work in agriculture and their stewardship of God's creation.

Advent Reflections
Join CRL in Weekly Advent Reflections

The readings for this Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, are all about hope and patience.  In both Isaiah and in the Gospel we are reminded of the things that are to come, and what should give us hope. Jesus, in the Gospel, says to His disciples, "The blind regain their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them." (Mt. 11) These things that Jesus said should give many of us hope.

Sign-up underway for Conservation Stewardship Program
USDA Funding Available for Farmers, Ranchers

USDA recently announced the 2017 sign-up period for the reinvented Conservation Stewardship Program, the nation's largest working lands conservation program. Farmers and ranchers can be rewarded for their conservation efforts, but must complete a quick, easy form by  Feb. 3 to start the process.
Learn more here.

Catholic Rural Life is a long-time advocate of the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) -- a national program that rewards farmers for protecting and enhancing natural resources on their working lands. CSP funding includes expanded options for conservation activities and an increased minimum payment to help smaller-scale producers. Interested farmers should visit their local NRCS office   and fill out a short form by Feb. 3, 2017 to take advantage of this opportunity.
