Read of the Week

December 7, 2016 marks the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  On December 7, 1941 the naval forces of the Empire of Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and six other military bases on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.  The results were devastating, with over 2400 Americans killed and over 1000 Americans wounded.  This tragic event helped propel America into action in both the Pacific and European theaters of World War II and was a defining moment for the  Greatest Generation .

Countdown To Pearl Harbor: The Twelve Days to the Attack
by Steve Twomey

A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter chronicles the 12 days leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, examining the miscommunications, clues, missteps and racist assumptions that may have been behind America's failure to safeguard against the tragedy. What will libraries look like in five to ten years?

If you haven't filled out a library  survey yet, please do. Another way to share what you need from your public library is to attend a Community Conversation in the Main Library or Branch Library locations.

Library Development Solutions will conduct Community Conversations in each library location to get a better sense of the current and future library service needs. A travel mug or flash drive with the library logo will be offered to all residents who come in person to help the library with the planning process.
All libraries are convenient drop off places for coats being collected during the holidays by the Rotary Club of Woodbridge-Perth Amboy, gently used clothing in the boxes outside each location and sponsored by the Township, Toys for Tots sponsored by Councilwoman Deborah Meehan of Colonia as well as the Marine Corps League, and nonperishable food items being collected by MCFOODS, the Middlesex Project.
