A new initiative at TBC....
Building on the wonderful work of the
Social
Action Committee,
we are weaving the idea of Tikkun Olam (acts of kindness to help make the world a better place) into the Religious School
Helping build a Better World...One (Lego) Piece at a Time
We are excited to announce a new initiative here at TBC!
We are working to weave the idea of
Tikkun Olam
(acts of kindness to help make the world a better place)
into our Religious School curriculum and build bridges
between TBC students and the local community.
We are thrilled to have partnered with The Carver Center in Norwalk, CT to focus our efforts to introduce social action into the
TBC Religious School.
The Carver Center, founded in 1938 as a neighborhood community center, is now the largest provider of after school programs for middle and high school students in Norwalk,CT.
The Carver Center provides after school programming, summer programs for more than 600 young people, college scholarships, athletic programs, international learning, and health and wellness programs.
In collaboration with The Carver Center we have identified two initiatives for the 2016-2017 school year.
Our first project is all about legos!
In support of Carver's STEM education in their CASPER program -- an intensive project-based, hands on learning in science, literacy, and math for grades K-5 - TBC will be collecting gently used legos.
Join us! If you have gently used loose legos at home, please donate to our LEGO DRIVE!
There will be lego bins at TBC from December 4, 2016- February 1, 2017 in the lobby.
First the lego drive, then a celebration!
On February 2
nd, 2017, we will bring all of our collected legos to The Carver Center for a lego celebration for our TBC and Carver Center
We will build and create and play together at a fun lego themed event. All of our TBC students will have the opportunity to be involved in these lego initiatives
beginning in school on Sunday, December 4
th
.
We have exciting plans to weave the idea of Tikkun Olam and social action throughout our curriculum as well as have fun and meaningful connection with the students at the Carver Center.
Please stay tuned for more information and feel free to contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
Sta
cy Barenberg,
Dana Czuczka
