Special Community Event
Nov. 14-18, Community Room
With renovations occurring at Amicable Church, a different location was needed for the Annual Thanksgiving Food Pantry in Tiverton.  Solution? Library space will be transformed into a "giving store" for area families in need. Sponsored and organized by Amicable Church, the Thanksgiving pantry represents a pooling of resources from area churches, businesses, farms, library patrons and individual donors, along with East Bay Community Action and dozens of volunteers, all working together to provide food for approximately 135 families, each to receive all items needed for a Thanksgiving meal with the trimmings, including a frozen turkey and locally grown produce. All distributions will occur on the culmination of the event on Saturday, November 18.

The Library will be holding Food for Fines leading up to this wonderful event to assist the organization's mission of serving our community! We will take non-expired, non-perishable food to subsidize what the group will be distributing to families. In exchange, we'll forgive library fines! Food for Fines will run from Nov. 1-18.

If you or someone you know is in need of some holiday assistance, please contact the library at (401)625-6796 or Bob Paige at 774-526-1496 to sign up.

Union Library News

Cocoon Journal is a national organization that provides journals to high school students in an effort to promote writing -- as a practice, as a discipline, and as a means to self-awareness. Tiverton Teen Librarian Rebecca Ott organized a drive to collect journals for Cocoon; the library's efforts were so successful that they ended up shipping 88 blank books -- the most ever received by Cocoon at one time! Click here for more information.
