Whether you volunteered your time, made a financial contribution, invited JA into your classroom or attended one of our events this year - we are thankful for you this holiday season.
 
With your support, we are currently on track to reach our new goal of bringing JA's life-changing financial literacy programs to 75,000 students this year.  This is no small feat!  Thank you for supporting Junior Achievement. Together, we'll continue to inspire and prepare the next generation of San Diego's leaders.

This year, we are once again partnering with The Century Club and Farmers Insurance through the Champions for Youth initiative. The charity campaign featured at the upcoming PGA Golf Tournament at Torrey Pines allows JA to receive 100% of your contribution---plus qualify for up-to $45,000 in additional bonus funding.

Bank of America team gives a thumbs-up to teaching financial literacy for a JA Day program.

Bank of America + JA = Making a Difference  

Bank of America's Ben Trieu teaches 1st graders about jobs. 
Junior Achievement has once again made a measurable impact on the next generation of San Diego's leaders thanks to   the Bank of America team. Thirty-three employees took a break from their day jobs to bring financia l literacy education to 795 students at Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary in San Marcos.  

"As an active supporter of JA, I am proud that so many Bank of America employees are volunteering their time and talents to share their knowledge, experience and passion with today's youth,"  said  JA Board Member, Karen Harrison, Senior Vice President at Bank of America. 

"We're pleased to have worked with JA for the past 15 years to impact thousands of students in our community by teaching them critical financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills."

Greg Olafson, Wendy Gillespie, Chad Ruyle, Marla Black, Clinton Selfridge, Martha Phillips and Jennifer Barns kick-off Entrepreneurship Month.  

Celebrating Entrepreneurship Month
During the month of November, local entrepreneurs shared their talents and passion with middle and high school students.   Junior Achievement Board Member, Wendy Gillespie, kicked off National Entrepreneurship Month with a celebration honoring entrepreneurs and their contributions to our economy at her home.  Wendy shared her experiences as a young student involved in JA Company Program years ago.  She spoke to the impact of this program and how it has influenced her life as a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur.  Over the course of four weeks, entrepreneurs entered into over 12 classrooms to share their personal testimonies. 

We would like to specifically thank those entrepreneurs who dedicated time to this volunteer initiative:

Sempra/SDG&E Team Brings a Dose of F inancial 
Literacy Inside the Classroom

A team of 40 corporate volunteers from   Sempra and SDG&E  delivered JA in a Day to 520 students at   Ibarra Elementary in City Heights.  During the JA Day, students learned about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. 
 
"We  are dedicated to the development of the next generation of diverse, responsible, and prepared leaders in San Diego and our partnership with JA ensures local students receive the skills they need to succeed in the workforce,"  said JA Board Member Chuck Manzuk , Director at  SDG&E, a Sempra Energy Company.  

During the event, Chuck and Sempra/SDG&E team were presented with the 'Golden Pin Trophy,'  for raising the most funds during the 2016 JA Bowl-A-Thon. With their support, 425 students will receive  a JA  program.  Way to Go!

Volunteer Spotlight: Dimitris Magemeneas

This month's volunteer spotlight is Dimitris Magemeneas.  The father of two has been a dedicated JA volunteer in North County for the past five years.   When he is not at work or with his family, he can be found teaching financial literacy to the students at Mission Bay High School.  His passion to empower tomorrow's leaders was recently recognized by the North County Philanthropy Council. The Financial Advisor and Partner at San Macros' Edward Jones office was honored as 2016 Volunteer of Year for his work on behalf of Junior Achievement. 
 
"My involvement with Junior Achievement began five years ago when I volunteered with my 5th grade daughter at JA BizTown," said Magemeneas.  "It continues today as I teach JA curriculum on personal finance and career success to students at Mission Bay High.   I enjoy connecting classroom learning to the real world of adult responsibilities and look forward to volunteering for JA for many years to come!"
