Ministry with Millennials:
Young Adult Perceptions

By A. Allan Martin

"Perception is reality." -Lee Atwater

Regardless of your age, one's perception plays a significant role in shaping your sentiments, valuing, and behavior.   Young adults [those post high-school through pre-parenthood] have many opinions, and when asked, "What is your perception of the Seventh-day Adventist Church?" there was no lack of responsiveness.   In a recent study of Adventist Millennials, we took a look at Adventist young adults and compared them to over 27,000 of their peers as studied by the Barna GroupRead More

Coaching Young Adults' Calling

By Nate Elias

As a youth and young adult pastor, the recent findings of the Barna Group concerning Seventh-day Adventist Church Millennials rang true in my suburban America setting. Often the solution has been to include young adults within the system of the church officers. For too many churches this has failed to stop the parade of young adults walking out of church. The Problem With Today's Music

By Dan Martella

Dan Martella

One prominent American clergyman is giving us good reason to be concerned about some of the new trends in music -

There are several reasons for opposing it.   It's too new.   It's often worldly, even blasphemous.   The new Christian music is not as pleasant as the more established style, because there are so many new songs that you can't learn them all.   It puts too much emphasis on instrumental music rather  than on godly lyrics.   This new music creates disturbances, making people act indecently and disorderly.   The preceding generation got along without it.   It's a money making scheme.   Some of these new music upstarts are lewd and loose.

Sound like a letter to the editor of the Adventist Review?   Sound like an op-ed in Christianity Today? Think again - this parody was written in 1723 by a frustrated New England Puritan pastor by the name of Thomas Symmes.   When he tried to introduce the hymns of Issac Watts and the practice singing from a hymnal, the tradition bound saints threw these arguments in his face.

Amazing Grace is the story of Frederick Howard, who grew up in the San Francisco-Oakland area in a home and neighborhood that was anything but ideal. He knew nothing about Got or religion, and was surrounded by drugs, pimps, and robbers. They were his role models ... until he met Jesus!
