Giving
At Pleasantdale Elementary School this can certainly mean a variety of things. One of our primary goals involves students exhibiting at least one year's growth over the course of the school year.

A Feathery Thank You!
Many thanks to all of our elementary school families who participated in the 2016 Student Council Food Drive. Well over 1000 items were donated to help our local families in need. For each item donated, students decorated a "feather for Tom the Turkey." Students and staff at the elementary school were excited to see the beauty of Tom's enormous tail!

Extra Thanks!
The elementary school staff would like to thank the PTA for the clever "Wild About Learning" themed treat tables set up during Parent/Teacher conferences. It was enjoyed by everyone!!

Students in the Spotlight

It's the Season for Giving Thanks, and Thanks for the Giving!
Last week we hosted our families for the Thanksgiving celebration. Coming from a large family, hosting can be challenging, and at times, the preparation, planning, cleaning, and cooking can threaten to overshadow the actual event.

Teaching Empathy
As we return from the Thanksgiving holiday and look forward to many other holidays in the month ahead, it is hard not to be overwhelmed by a feeling of gratitude.

We have our annual Student Council Movie Night this Friday, December 2 at 6:00 - 8:00pm in the APR. The feature film will be
Home Alone! Students are encouraged to bring blankets, wear pj's if they want, and get ready for a fun night! There is no charge for the event, yet students are encouraged to bring small stocking stuffer gifts to add to our Holiday Sharing Drive. Each child bringing in a gift will be entered into a special raffle that night! Our PTA will be on-hand with food sales as well.
While this is a Middle School event, younger siblings can attend, provided they are with a parent. Parents are welcome too! Don't leave anyone Home Alone!

Pleasantdale School Board Seats Up for Election
Pleasantdale School District 107 will have four school board seats to be filled at the April 4, 2017 Consolidated Election. These seats are for four-year terms expiring in April 2021. The period for filing nominating papers runs from December 12 through December 19, 2016.
Changes in the state election laws have moved the responsibility of school board elections from the local board secretary. Those duties will now be handled by the county clerk, or board of election commissioners. Candidates may want to contact the county clerk or the board of election commissioners to see if there are places other than the main county office where they can file their nomination papers.
Candidates for school board will not be filing any paperwork at the local district. The county clerk may have petition forms available or blank petitions may be downloaded from the State Board of Elections website,
http://www.elections.il.gov/. A "Running for Office" Starter Kit is also available by
clicking here.
Candidates can get information about being a school board member from the Illinois Association of School Boards, at:
www.iasb.com/elections.
