The City of Moreno Valley is here to help you get in the holiday spirit – without the traffic.

Experience 65 tons of snow – plenty for snowball fights and snow angels – at the City of Moreno Valley’s Snow Day on Saturday, December 3rd at the Conference & Recreation Center. For only $5 per 45 minute snow session, children under 12 years old can tube down three different snow runs or play in our Tot Lot. You are cordially invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Moreno Valley Mayor-elect Dr. Yxstian A. Gutierrez and City Council Members-elect Victoria Baca, District 1, and David Marquez, District 3 on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at 6 pm.

The ceremony will take place at Moreno Valley City Hall, City Council Chamber, 14177 Frederick Street, Moreno Valley, CA 92552.

On November 8th, Moreno Valley voters elected Mr. Gutierrez as the City’s first directly-elected mayor along with new City Council members, Ms. Baca and Mr. Marquez.

The City’s five former City Council districts were consolidated and redrawn into four districts under a measure approved by voters in 2014. The measure also created the office of mayor, to be elected in a citywide election. November’s election was the first time the new council districts were in effect.

The City of Moreno Valley recently launched MorenoValleyBusiness.com, a full-featured website to help companies find the best Moreno Valley location to open up a business or expand their current operation.

The website is one of a series of City projects aimed at aggressively marketing Moreno Valley’s ideal location and motivated workforce to businesses and investors. Moreno Valley has established itself as one of the most business friendly cities in Southern California by streamlining the development process and offering attractive incentives, including for hiring of Moreno Valley residents.

New restaurants, new hotels and new warehouses translate into jobs. Floor & Decor recently leased a 1.1 million square foot distribution facility in Moreno Valley. Find out more  here

Live Christmas trees are a fixture in many homes during the holidays, but they tend to dry out over time and can become dangerous fire hazards, endangering your family and your home.

Between 2009 and 2013, U.S. firefighters responded to an average of 210 residential fires a year sparked by Christmas trees. The fires killed on average seven people a year, injured another 19 and caused $17.5 million in direct property damage each year.

Don’t become a statistic. Follow these tips to keep you and your family safe:

• Make sure live trees are well watered.
  
• Keep trees away from any and all heat sources. This includes electrical outlets, radiators, space heaters, and fireplaces.
  
• Keep trees securely upright in a stand to ensure that it will not accidentally tip over or be knocked over by children or pets
  
• If you purchased an artificial tree, please make sure it is labeled “fire retardant”.
  
• Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections. Connect no more than three strands of mini string sets and a maximum of 50 bulbs for screw-in bulbs. Read manufacturer’s instructions for the number of LED strands to connect.
  
• Unplug the tree lights before leaving home or going to bed.
  
• Use a maximum of three strands of tree lights on a single extension cord.
  
• Dispose of your tree at an appropriate recycling center promptly after the holiday season.

The City of Moreno Valley and local residents honored our military men and women, their families and the sacrifices they make to protect our freedoms at the City’s 9th Annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Friday, November 11th.

A huge thank you to the ceremony’s keynote speaker, Commander Sean O’Donnell of the Naval Operations Support Center, for his heartfelt speech about his family’s long history of serving our country and to the choir groups, and Moreno Elementary School’s California Cadet Corps, 321st Battalion who paid tribute to our military troops.

Congratulations to Larry Froehlich who was honored as the inaugural Heroes for Heroes award recipient for his dedication to March Air Reserve Base’s Hangar 385, a volunteer program established by his wife Laura in 2004. Since its inception, volunteers have made sure members of our military are deployed and welcomed back to the states with “a little bit of home.” Laura unexpectedly passed away in 2012, but Larry has made sure his wife’s spirit and her unwavering commitment to America’s military lives on through his work with Hangar 385.
