2016 Year in Review 

Graduations (high school & college)
  • A&B proudly reports a 100% high school graduation rate for the class of 2015/2016; a total of 43 students graduated on time. Thanks to our funders laptops and a tablet was given to A&B student athletes of the year for most volunteer hours, high grade point average, athletic ability and dedication to the program.
  • Two of our class of 2016/2017 student athletes received the 11th Annual Arches of Hope Aim High Scholarship. This is a prestigious award given to African-America males who excel in grade point average, essay writing and in their quality of letters of recommendations ($1,200 and a laptop).
  • We hired one of our A&B student athletes as a Student Internship Regional Coordinator. Thank you Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Denver Public Schools.
  • Ten A&B student athletes participated in City Councilwoman Gilmore's District 11 Day of Beauty. At our 2nd Annual Hustle & Flow community event, we entertained and feed over 200 people in May 2016.
  • We are especially proud of our three college graduates and two Masters Degree recipients. 
  • This year over 2,400 young adults and families were served at life skills workshops, tutoring and athletic events hosted by Athletics & Beyond.
Program Recognition:
  • 2016 Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce award finalist.
  • Inaugural honoree for the My Brother's Keeper MBK25. This award was presented by Mayor Michael B. Hancock to some 25 amazing partners and front line workers who are helping us deliver the mission of the President Obama's My Brother's Keeper Initiative in Denver.

A&B's alumni, Christel, currently a junior at CU interned at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota participated in research for publication  with General Thoracic Surgeon, Dr. Blackmon: The Utility of Three-Dimensional Printing in Planning Thoracic Surgical Procedures:  paraesophageal diaphragm hernia Reviewing thoracic CT scans and surgical cases of patients with paraesophageal   hernia.  

Some of the colleges we have visited: University of Houston, Texas Southern University,  Arizona State University, University of Nebraska, University of Southern California, University of California Los Angeles, University of Miami, Florida State University, University of Florida, University of South Florida, University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University- Ft. S trong Women and Gentlemen (S.W.A.G.) Academic Academy was developed to boost academic achievement and increase student engagement. Creating well-rounded students and then athletes, have proven to create successful and thoughtful adult citizens. Targeted Academic Intervention and Tutoring is a group specific program that starts with students grades 4th - 8th in low performing neighborhoods like Swansea and Montbello. S.W.A.G. partners with high school athletic programs in the Denver Metropolitan area providing Targeted Academic Intervention, SAT preparation and life skills seminars. Academic assistance is provided by working with University of Denver grad students and Club Z Tutoring.  Club Z!'s uniquely effective study skills program called Learning Built to Lastâ„¢ targets the different learning styles and habits of middle school and high school students.

Activities include peer mentoring, training in leadership, financial literacy, life skills, and healthy living. Various strategies are used by A&B's integrated programs with the desired outcome of increasing high school graduation rates, higher education attendance, knowledge of life and educational skills, and discipline to insure successful transitions to higher education.

Over the last 5 years, Athletics & Beyond's co-founder, Ali has helped provide meals for over 100 families in need.  Athletics & Beyond has partnered with various community based groups to continue and expand these opportunities. Want to contribute?  Email: [email protected]

Over 40 backpacks, containing school supplies, were given to students to start the fall of 2016 school year.
