E-News, July 14th, 2017

Praying for one another is one of the primary ways we support our church family. This is one of the reasons why I am excited about the revised prayer list. You may be asking yourself, “We have a church prayer list?” Yes we do. It has always been available by the doors of our worship spaces, however, many people were unaware.

This week we have revised it to make it more of a tool for your own prayer life. There are categories of prayers as well as space on the back for you to list your own concerns. We are also going to be printing it on blue paper so that it matches our blue prayer cards. It is also folded so that it can easily fit into your Bible, stand up on your dining room table, or wherever you will be able to see it and use it to help guide your daily prayers.

The prayer list is changed every week. Names that have been listed for at least two weeks are dropped off and new ones are added from the blue prayer cards, or people who call the church office. If you have a concern you would like for our church to pray for, please use those cards and we will add them to the list. If you would like to see the new prayer list you can click here.

Florida: 'Feet to the faith' impacts hearts, minds, social justice
July 19, 2017
By Doug Long | FLUMC

In a media world with an over-abundance of news reports streaming images of polar bears stranded on melting ice and narratives about increasing crime, poverty and social injustice, how much of this world needs change becomes hard to discern.

According to Sarah Miller, chairman of the Florida Conference's Social Justice Committee, social justice is not a passing fad in the Christian community, and churches can make a positive difference in our changing world.

For churches, social justice and working for the greater good has become a calling card. According to some Florida Conference social justice advocates, it is increasingly important for our churches to have the ability to make positive differences in their communities and our world.

The feedback to the Commission on a Way Forward gives a sense of the task ahead.

The commission asked various United Methodists to describe their constituency’s “preferred future for our denomination regarding the nature, conditions and extent of the inclusion of LGBTQ people within the church.”

The 32-member commission will sift through the responses when it meets starting July 19 through July 21. The group’s fourth meeting is closed to the public and takes place at an undisclosed location in the Chicago area.... to continue reading, click HERE.
