Asim Buyuksoy -  "Self-Examination of the Soul"

Captain's Prayer Breakfast @ St. James' Episcopal Church (July 20):

Once per quarter, the Islamic Center attends LAPD Olympic Division's, Captain's Prayer Breakfast. This time, we gathered at St. James' Episcopal Church on Wilshire Blvd. and listened to the diverse range of "chants" that exist across faith traditions. Sheikh Asim Buyuksoy opened the program with a recitation of Surah al-Fatiha. Sharing these experiences are key to building bridges with the greater community - and as Sheikh Asim shared, "We need to continue building our relationships with law enforcement people of all faith backgrounds to give living examples of our shared values - love, respect, mercy, justice, mutual understanding and serving the most vulnerable among us."

Morning Hike @ Griffith Park Observatory (July 16):

The second Sunday of our Summer 2017 Program was a wonderful success. We gathered together for a refreshing morning hike at Griffith Park. The surrounding mountains and sublime views set the perfect tone for Sheikh Asim to lead a reflection on the virtues of reciting "Allahu Akbar." By the end of the hike, we had all grown closer through our shared experience and appreciation for God's creation. Check back for more upcoming hikes!
