Our animals love stories too! Bring a book to read to the animals of Hickory Knolls and enjoy a fun way to share a story with the entire family. Peter Rabbit, Ollie the lizard and our other friends will be joined by therapy dogs from around the area for a cozy event. A reading expert from the St. Charles Library will kick off the event with a short group story time. FREE but please register, and bring a donation of paper towels for Anderson Animal Shelter.

Learn the science behind vermicompost, composting with worms, and then make a tote you can take home and compost with inside your own house. All materials and yes, even the worms are provided.

Learn Your Birds: Winter Waterfowl

It's safe to say that just about everyone can identify Canada geese. But what about all those other birds you see along the Fox River? Join expert birders from Kane County Audubon as they locate and identify dabbling and diving duck species that visit our area each winter. Meet at Hazeltine Park at the corner of Riverside and Ohio Avenues.
 

Singing Bowls Spring Equinox Meditation

SCOUTING OUT
Hickory Knolls 
 
Programs for boy and girl scouts are one hour long and held at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center.

The fee is $50 for up to 15 scouts and scheduled
on a first-come, first-serve basis.


Topics can be customized to meet  the needs of your group. Naturalists will assist individual scouts working
on their Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards or their
Eagle Scout Rank.

The Hickory Knolls Discovery Center is a 10,500 sq. ft. building featuring a spacious lobby that soars more than 20 feet in height, with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the oak savanna just outside the doors. A wide range of attractions appeal to visitors of all ages including live animal displays, interactive floor-to-ceiling murals, indoor turtle pond and wetland exhibit, and more.
