Letter from the Artistic Director
With the holidays rolling in, we are frequently reminded to buy local, and with good reason. Supporting local businesses strengthens them, keeps money in the community, reduces environmental impact, and helps create more jobs, for starters.
But buying local doesn't only apply to hardware and housewares and clothing and Christmas trees. Spending your entertainment dollars on local artists benefits them and, in return, you and the community by helping to raise the quality of local entertainment. And it's usually more economical, to boot.
This month, the Rep is continuing a Toledo tradition with its 31st production of A Christmas Carol, a completely local production at the historic Valentine Theatre, with lavish sets and costumes, tuneful music, dancing, and a timeless story as relevant today as when it was first penned. Debra Ross Calabrese directs, choreographs and co-wrote the adaptation with David Jex, whose beautiful score combines carols of the Victorian era and his own original music. It's the perfect way to put yourself in a holiday mood, and give an early Christmas gift to you and your family.
And this year, we're offering another way to buy local, and make some inroads on your holiday shopping list. We'll be offering gift certificates, in all denominations, before and after the show as well as during intermission. Give the gift of local entertainment, and see a great show; an ingenious way to multi-task.
See you at the (Valentine) theatre,

A 31-year Toledo Rep tradition! This timeless tale of redemption follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he is transformed by the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future from a miserly old curmudgeon into a man who embodies the true meaning of Christmas. With lavish costumes, spectacular sets and a musical score rich with carols of the era, this production is one you will not want to miss!
