The Year-End 'To-Do' List

With the 2016 golf season coming to an end, it's time to break out our year-end "To-Do" list.

  1. Sulfur- We apply sulfur to the greens to lower the pH in the soil. Sulfur needs to be applied in two applications, but the problem this year has been the warm temps. Good for you, not so much for sulfur. So look for yellow pellets on the greens toward the end of this week and again in the middle of next week. The applications are a little close but nothing we can do about that since it needs to be watered in, which leads us to #2.

  2. Irrigation- The irrigation system will be blown out on November 11. We start with the sprinklers closest to the well house and move out from there. Once we start a hole we can't stop until it's finished. So if you are planning on golfing that day the likelihood of getting wet is pretty high. Be aware!

  3. Leaves- As I look up, it seems to me we are going to have a busy November. For a couple of weeks it's like the movie Groundhog Day around here!

  4. Snow Mold Control- We apply snow mold control on the greens, tees and approaches. This is the last fungicide application of the year, yes! This says we made it, time to breathe again! We typically spray just before Thanksgiving.

  5. Tarps- The last thing of the season will be to put the tarps
    on greens 3, 4 and 6.

The holidays are a time to gather with families and friends and give thanks for all of our blessings. From all of us on the grounds crew here at Pottawatomie, we would like to thank you for all of your kind words and support this season. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
