  :

Believe it or not, we completed the first quarter of the school year today.  Time flies when you're having fun!

Teachers will be busy next week preparing report cards and comments to share with parents at our annual parent/teacher conferences held on November 7th.  Notice of scheduled conference times has already been sent home.  If you haven't already done so, please confirm your time by returning the bottom portion of the notice or by calling the school.  Please call the school or e-mail Mrs. Freeman ( [email protected]) if you must re-schedule your time. Thank you.

Wednesday, we celebrate All Saints Day with a special Mass at 9:30AM in the church.  If you're able, we hope you will join us!

Have a great weekend.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal

From The Classroom of Ms. Koffie - Grade 4

Hi! My name is Bridgette Koffie and I am a new teacher at St. Michael's Academy! I teach fourth grade Social Studies, Math, Religion, and Reading Literature. My previous experience has been in a variety of classroom environments in Springfield and I am excited to begin my first year teaching in St. Michael's Academy.

In class,  I encourage discussions and simulations in a lesson that ties into a real world scenario.  I love to watch students ask each other questions and discuss answers; it inspires me to continue to teach. My goals this year are to get students involved in the subjects spiritually while encouraging safety, responsibility, and respect.

My philosophy of education reflects that every child should have the right to learn and get a quality education. Every student who enters the classroom should feel comfortable, safe and expect to be treated fairly. I believe students are agents of change and in order for them to succeed, they need educators who can guide them in the right direction and empower them to take charge of their learning. This applies not only to a school learning context, but also in their lifelong spiritual growth.

I look forward to a rewarding experience at St. Michael's Academy!

Grade 8 Literature

Future Stage Stars In Grade 8?

The 8th Grade presented scene reenactments as part of their culminating activities after the completion of reading  Sixty-Eight Rooms  by Marianne Malone.  In small groups of 5 or 6, students selected a scene from the book, wrote an original script, dressed in character, and presented to their classmates.  It was a great way to bring the book to life and show a richer understanding of the text!

Student Writing Gallery

Grade 5 Adds To Gallery

Mrs. Senecal's language arts classes have been busy reading, writing and presenting their original work.  After reading several poems that were related to sports and athletes, Mrs. Senecal gave her classes an assignment to write a poem about their favorite free-time activity.  They were encouraged to use rhyme, rhythm and sound to show their feelings about the activity of their choice.  As you read, it is easy to imagine the crack of the bat hitting the ball, of the skateboard wheels on the pavement and the dancing feet moving ever so gracefully!

Enjoy our fifth grade poems on the SMA website under Student Life, Student Writing Gallery, Fifth Grade Poems 2017.

  Art Room

Fun In The Art Room

Our thanks go out to our Art Teacher, Mrs. Alves, for sharing some greats photos. There has been a lot of Halloween fun going on in the Art Room!

 Springfield Firefighters

Springfield Firefighters In The House!

Thank you to Springfield Firefighters,  Privates Nick Diaz, Big John and Pablo Colon and Lt. Drew Piemonte who brought the Springfield Fire Department's Heavy Rescue Truck to St. Michael's Academy this week. The students were excited to climb aboard the truck and to operate some of their equipment!

Middle Level Dance

Excitement At The Dance

And speaking of firefighters, if you were at the Halloween Middle Level Dance this week, you learned an important lesson. What lesson is that you ask?  The fact that Halloween smoke machines should not be used when there is a high level of humidity in the air.

As the spooky scene was being set at the dance, the fake smoke started to collect instead of dissipate and roll across the room.  And guess what happened next?  The smoke detectors went off!!

We send out a huge thank you to the Springfield Firefighters who responded so quickly and efficiently. It certainly put a new level of excitement to the dance!

Afterwards, all returned to normal and the fun resumed!

Book Fair

The Book Fair Is Coming!

It's that time of the year!  The annual SMA Book Fair is coming on Monday, November 6th through the morning of Thursday,  November 9th in the gymnasium.

There are always lots of cool books, posters and games, so don't miss the opportunity to pick something up.  What is better than a good book?! We also need lots of help to staff the fair so look for a volunteer sheet coming home with your child today!
