New Classrooms Now Open! Come See Them in Action on Monday, November 13!

Phase One of "Our Vision-The Next Ten Years" is already yielding success, growth, and increased opportunity for our students and their teachers.

Last Monday we opened the long-awaited six new classrooms: four English rooms and two art rooms, one of which will be devoted to gallery displays of student work. And the previous week we opened the new outdoor basketball and volleyball court at the back of campus.

Please come out on Monday evening, November 13, at 6:00 p.m. to see the new rooms and to hear more about "Our Vision-The Next Ten Years," the Board's strategic plan for the campus and program development.

This exciting progress complements our acquisition of the adjacent Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly Preserve last spring: land that is offering immediate access to science and service learning projects and which will eventually provide a direct link between upper and lower campuses.

Two more projects remain to be finished in Phase One, both of which we hope to complete before the end of the school year:

· Reconfiguration of the MPR into the Adam Z. Rice Memorial Theater

· The establishment of a new STEM and Innovation Center.

With thanks and kudos to the Board of Trustees, school facilities and operations personnel, and generous donors who are making this happen.

Discussing Gender Identity at RHP and Renaissance

On Thursday, November 16, we will be sharing two presentations on gender identity for (separately) middle and upper school students. The presentation falls under our "Respect Yourself and Others" guidelines within the Husky Pledge.

To help ensure that parents are informed about the presentation and also provided tools to talk with their children about these issues, we are holding a parent meeting prior to the student presentation as follows: (RSVPs are appreciated)

Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 from 4:30-5:30pm
"Gender Identity and Expression," a presentation by  Dr. Marvin Belzer, Director, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, Keck USC School of Medicine.
Please join us for an informational event where Dr. Belzer will review the latest research in youth gender identity and expression, discuss how physicians and therapists support youth and their families, and provide information to assist parents to discuss these issues with their children.

Katie Maire

"I'm pretty independent when it comes to my workflow, but I still need some help with brand new concepts. I had to learn to take the advice people give to me, also I had to learn that having someone edit my work is a good thing. I also have this very curious part of me. I love science and history. Here's a first: I actually like school. Learning seems cruel to every teenager. But for me it opens my horizons and helps me grow. Because I learn differently, and I retain everything and I like to think of it as an advantage more than a disadvantage. It never brings my spirit down because I'm always happy to be at school and learn. I put passion and effort in my work and everything I do."

Thanks to the community for your generous donations to this year's Access Books Book Drive to benefit Wilshire Crest Elementary.  RHP & REN achieved our goal of 500 books that went directly to the classrooms.  Over 5,000 books were donated to the school last Saturday and the teachers, students and parents were thrilled beyond words.

On Tuesday, Varsity Girls' Basketball held their senior game and now they're headed for CIF playoffs!
