SRHS Hires New Director of Counseling
Sanborn Welcomes SRHS Counselor Heidi Leavitt to the Leadership Role

Principal Brian M. Stack is excited to announce that Sanborn Regional High School counselor Heidi Leavitt has been promoted to the role of Counseling Director for the school.

Heidi has been employed at Sanborn Regional High School since 2009 as the Special Education Counselor.  Heidi has been instrumental in the development of the Extended Learning Opportunity/Work-based Learning Program at the high school growing the program from 1 student in 2009 to 75+ in the 2017-18 school year.  In addition, Heidi has served on the district training team to bring professional development to the faculty and staff regarding a variety of mental health issues.  Heidi also serves as a district trainer for Crisis Prevention and Intervention.  Heidi holds a license as a clinical mental health counselor for the state of New Hampshire as well as a certification as a guidance counselor in New Hampshire.  Heidi received a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Assumption College and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UMASS Dartmouth.  Heidi completed her coursework for a guidance certification at Rivier University.

Heidi will assume the director role immediately. As director, she oversees the comprehensive counseling program at the school, a program that includes work with students on post-secondary programming as well as mental health counseling and social emotional learning programming for the school. Heidi replaces Michelle Catena who left recently to take a position closer to home in Massachusetts. Principal Brian M. Stack had this to say about the promotion of Heidi to the role: "Heidi Leavitt is a true champion for the children of the Sanborn Regional School District. Over the years in her various roles at Sanborn she has advanced the work of the counseling team in many ways, including the development of a premiere career pathway and internship model that is considered by many in New Hampshire to be a model program. I am excited to see Heidi move into this new role, a move that will continue to allow her to spread her wings and bring about positive change to many programs that impact the climate and culture of our school community."

Please join us in welcoming Heidi Leavitt as our new Counseling Director!
Senior Spotlight : Chase Sanborn
An Article by Teachers Kathy Giovando and Amanda Bradley

Chase Sanborn has matured a lot throughout his high school career. When Chase first started as a freshman, he was quiet and reserved. Now, he is sociable and a real pleasure to have in class. He has a unique sense of humor, which many of his classmates and teachers enjoy.

Former teacher, Joe Tardif says: "Chase has shown the most improvement in Home Base history. He has become a responsible, trustworthy adult with a good sense of humor. You never know what Chase will bring to school on any given day, a cat on a leash or a turtle he found in the road."

Outside of school, Chase works as a cook at Josiah's restaurant in Kingston and has recently taken on a paid internship with Truform Precision Manufacturing in Plaistow.  He works hard and takes his responsibilities seriously. When he's not working, Chase enjoys tinkering with his truck and bass fishing.

When Chase graduates, he would like to earn his welding certificate while continuing to work full time. We have no doubt that Chase will be successful in his endeavors.

Sanborn Hosts I am College Bound / I Applied Day
Monday, November 3, 2017 Hosted by Our Counseling Office

New Hampshire's "I Am College Bound/I Applied" campaign is designed to help high school seniors navigate the college admissions process and ensure that each student pursues a post-secondary education by inviting them to submit at least one college admission application during a particular school day with the support of their school and local higher education professionals.
While special focus is placed on assisting students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may not have otherwise seriously considered applying to college, all students are encouraged to participate and can sign up for a time slot in the guidance office. In 2017, this campaign will take place at Sanborn throughout the day in the Library on Monday, November 13th.

Follow-up support and materials regarding completing the college admissions and financial aid processes are distributed as well.  There will be no cost for any applications to any NH college or university submitted as part of the event; fee waivers will be available to all participating students.  Additionally, each student who sends off an application on the 13th as part of the event will be entered to win a $500 scholarship.  Further information and information about how students register to participate in Sanborn's 'I Am College-Bound/I Applied' day will be distributed in Senior Advisories.

This campaign is part of the American College Application Campaign, a national effort to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential.

The American College Application Campaign is just one of many national efforts, including ReachHigher and BetterMakeRoom , designed to encourage all of the nation's students to complete their education after high school.

Did You Know?
By Annie Collyer, Chairperson, SRSD Budget Committee

Did you know that the Sanborn Regional School District Budget Committee met on October 12 with the new Business Administrator Michele Croteau, to review the format in which the Administration's spending and revenue projections for the District will be communicated this year?  Ms. Croteau has been establishing procedures for the financial order of the District, with the goal of being as transparent as possible.

The initial budget meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 1 at 6 pm in the High School library in a joint meeting of the Budget Committee and the School Board.  The public is invited to attend and/or to view the video that will be available on the SAU17 website, to be fully informed.  The Budget Committee, which has the duty to prepare and present the budget to the voters on February 7, 2018,  will hold two-three other joint meetings with the School Board to make sure the budget aligns with District goals for education, with prudent attention to the funding provided by the taxpayers of the community.  The members established their calendar of budget development meetings as well as guidelines for conducting their business.
