"IMAGES" PHOTOGRAPHIC ART GALLERY Newsletter
NOVEMBER 2017
Florida, unseen.

Dear friends,

Welcome to my "PHOTOBLOG" Newsletter, a monthly publication which is being sent to clients and friends, to keep them updated on my current photographic interests, new works and future developments.

My goal is to format the Newsletter around a short series of images, which I will try to describe briefly, so that important or interesting details will be easily available to the viewer.

Most of the imagery displayed here will also be on view at       " IMAGES" Photographic Art Gallery,  located at 14406 Detroit Ave., in Lakewood, and I would be happy to extend to all an invitation to stop by sometime for a visit.

As always, I will appreciate your comments and suggestions pertaining to my work, and , should you enjoy these images, please feel free to share the "PHOTOBLOG" with friends  and others as well; anyone interested in my work could be easily added to my distribution list by contacting me at  [email protected]

or by visiting at www.mellinophotography.com

  Florida, unseen.
As many of you might know, I have become somewhat familiar with many Florida landscapes and its wonderful nature, and I have often portrayed much of it in some of my Facebook postings as well as on a couple of prior "Photoblogs". However, my last trip was sadly very different and challenging, having personally witnessed real devastation and tragic circumstances in this beautiful part of our Country.
Realizing how fortunate we are in so many ways, I feel obliged to share some of my thoughts and concerns with you: it might not help much, but a second or two of enhanced awareness could in some way be constructive. Thanks for looking and for sharing with others.

The Everglades Wonder Gardens have been a historic treasure for more than 80 years in downtown Bonita Springs, along the Imperial River, on Old Rout 41. Filled with rich tropical gardens, giant banyan trees and host to many species of reptiles, exotic birds and a large group of alligators living in a large, well protected pond, it had attracted tourists for generations, also thanks to its ever growing learning opportunities available to children of all ages...the Gardens were extensively damaged by Irma in September, leading to the closure of this attraction, with at the moment no definite reopening plans. No loss of human life has fortunately occurred, and many of the animals were sheltered ahead of the hurricane.I had visited the Gardens several times with our granddaughters, and certainly hope that this site will some day be again able to welcome many more visitors...

Much damage caused by severe flooding in this region, worsened by the engorged Imperial River, still very visible on the way to Bonita Springs...

Here are some  of the "guests"...for an extra $ 5 you could actually take part in the alligator "feeding" demonstration...there were more than 40 of them, sharing a large fenced pool. A very good photo op, as long as you were fast to pull back your camera-holding hand!

A very large, old banyan tree welcomed visitors by the Gardens entrance: it was essentially eradicated by the storm, along with much of the redundant tropical vegetation seen throughout. Above, a group of pink Flamingos; tens of egrets, herons and other species were usually flying around, finding temporary refuge within the century old trees.

Various colorful small birds you could run into, along the winding paths often filled with unexpected surprises!

Here comes " Picasso"...

This very Floridian Santa welcomed all visitors at the entrance, although not everyone was terribly "trilled" by this encounter...

Hope you came along with me on this short "trip" which hopefully will be some day available to all again; however, for the time being, this remains an " unseen" part of Florida to most!

I am very happy to announce the upcoming opening of a new exhibit at "IMAGES" Art Gallery.... IMAGES of ITALY will be on view beginning November 17th ( 5 to 8 pm) and Saturday, November 18th ( 12 to 4 pm), with a new stunning series of watercolors by Cherry Rappoli, a very well known Cleveland and West Side artist. Please stop by to welcome Cherry and admire her works...some wine and small bites will be available as usual, to complement the art on view!

If you happen to be in the Naples area in November, please stop by at the Cherelle Art Gallery on November 11th ( 11 to 3pm) for the opening of the latest Exhibit " Artists and Authors for Charity", a wonderful event to benefit the Shelter for Abused Women & Children. I was invited to join the exciting group of artists featured in the show, bringing a dozen of local nature landscape images photographed over the last few years. Charelle Art Gallery (4263 Bonita Beach Rd., Bonita Springs) and Cheryl Wellman, the Gallery owner and herself a very accomplished painter, will be happy to welcome you!
