Were you the kid that touched the fire to see how hot it was? Were you the child who was told the 9 volt battery would shock your tongue, so you immediately touched it to your tongue? You could be forgiven for the years you spent learning what was hot, sharp, dangerous and smelly. We all had a learning period with something in our lives.
Interestingly, in the world we live in, meaning a scorching summer, it's more or less impossible to avoid getting burned by something unless you've dedicated yourself to never moving away from the air conditioner. Your car handle, the seats, the steering wheel, the seatbelt, the pavement; anything that has a direct line to the sun, is basically on fire.
It's ironic that although we might call these days, "heat advisory" days and look at the crisis this creates for anyone without a functioning air conditioner, we always crave the opposite for our church.
We want our church to be on fire. We want a passion to ignite and engulf us all in the Holy Spirit. We ask God to allow us to burn bright with his glory. We never want to be called a cold church or a church with cold people. It should be clear that the more direct the light of the Son of God shines on you, the more on fire you will be. You will radiate the love of Jesus to all in your circle of influence if you'll only spend more time finding a way to stand directly in the path of His glory.
Lets endeavor to burn with the fire that is offered through the Holy Spirit as we learn to shine the love of Jesus all around us. Of course, please drink plenty of water.
