INTRODUCING CCISD IMPACT
One does not have to go far to observe acts of kindness in and around the community of Clear Creek ISD. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, students, teachers and neighbors banded together to care for one another during and after the disaster. But this character in action has been a mainstay in the District long before Harvey's landfall. The CCISD IMPACT project is the District's community service awareness campaign aimed to share with the public the everyday influence students are having on their world.

Throughout the 2017-2018 school year, the District will spotlight the wide impacts of community service events and activities happening at every campus and even District support departments.  Some of the activities that will be spotlighted may be expressly created service projects in response to the long-term needs of families impacted by the floods. While others have become cherished and meaningful service traditions in that school.

Below are the latest IMPACT sightings across Clear Creek ISD, some of which the public is invited to attend.
Bayside Intermediate Giving Bach Concert
October 30, 2017
7 p.m.

The Bayside Orchestra is inviting the community to come and enjoy music by Bach, Bartok and Handel while also supporting staff and students at the Education Village. Donations of restaurant gift cards will be collected at the door and given to those students and faculty impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
CECHS Students Restoring Armand Bayou
November 3, 2017
8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Sophomores of the Clear Horizons Early College High School are converging on Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) to help restore the prairielands. These aspiring naturalists already had their orientation and training on October 27 from Armand Bayou staff biologists learning the nature center's history and imperiled prairie. More than 120 students will spend the day cultivating and planting prairie grass at the nature center.

North Pointe Elementary Locks of Love

Now in its fifth year, Locks of Love took place during one of the school's monthly Character Connection assemblies. As hundreds of students cheered and supported their peers' selfless decision, guest professional hair stylists did the shearing honors for eleven girls and women. The young girls unmistakably understand the cause and each had the opportunity to share with the student body their own reasons that they were giving away a piece of themselves.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Football fans and space fans are invited to come out to the November 3 Clear Lake High School vs. Clear Creek High School football game to help welcome home a soccer ball that was recovered from the debris of the Space Shuttle Challenger 51-L accident in 1986. The soccer ball, whose home has been Clear Lake High School since its recovery after the 1986 accident, completed its voyage to space in April of this year on the International Space Station as a personal effect of Expedition 50 Commander Colonel Shane Kimbrough.

Challenger Astronaut Colonel Ellison Onizuka had originally intended to take the ball on his journey into space on the ill-fated flight. His daughter, Janelle Onizuka, was a soccer player on the Clear Lake High School soccer team in 1986. The ball bears her signature and those of her teammates.

During the halftime ceremony (est. 8 p.m.), Colonel Kimbrough will be presenting the soccer ball back to Lorna Onizuka, the widow of Col. Onizuka, his daughter Janelle, and other members of the Onizuka family. Several members of the 1986 soccer team will also be a part of the special reunion along with other special guests.
