Landmark Building
Redevelopment Slated for Downtown Akron
Legislation is in process in Akron to authorize the sale of Akron's historic Landmark Building to the Bowery Development Group as part of a larger Downtown Vision and Redevelopment Plan put into place by the Downtown Akron Partnership. If the legislation is approved, the Landmark Building will receive a $33 million face-lift, transforming the former savings and loan headquarters into a mixed-use development. Additionally, the development group is purchasing five smaller vacant buildings near the Ohio-Erie Canal's Lock 4 in downtown Akron. These buildings will be restored under Historic Tax Credit guidelines for mixed use-development. Photo by Shane Wynn.

Zoar Village
Zoar Gains NHL Status
On the eve of its bicentennial in 2017, the village of Zoar has been designated a national historic landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior. Home to a Utopian society from 1817-1898, Zoar has been in danger since its levee was discovered in need of repair in 2011. With the new NHL status, the dam will be properly repaired and maintained for the security of Zoar. The new listing is one of ten new national landmarks, which joined the ranks of over 2,500 nationwide.
