News and offers direct from The Crinan Hotel in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland

News from Crinan
We have had some glorious sunny days over the last few weeks with clear blue skies and sparkling seas.  The hills are now purple with heather, the rowan trees are a mass of red berries and you can collect your own brambles (blackberries) from the hedgerows to make jelly or just eat them straight from the bush!  The days are getting shorter which means that you may be lucky enough to be treated to a spectacular sunset while you enjoy your dinner in the Westward Restaurant

Wildlife at Crinan
Wildlife at Crinan

Visitors to Crinan have recently been enthralled by Crinan Harbour's newest resident - our otter seems to be unusually bold and is often to be found hunting on the foreshore at the Harbour which is just a few minutes' walk from the Hotel.

You can find out much more about local wildlife at the new Information and Wildlife Interpretation Centre run by the Heart of Argyll Wildlife Organisation - it is just a short drive from the Hotel or within walking distance for those who fancy stretching their legs.

The Crinan Hotel now offers a range of over 50 different malt whiskies for you to try.

You might like to go for a tour of a local distillery during the day to discover how Scotch Whisky is made.  Oban distillery is just 40 miles up the road, or for the more adventurous, the ferry to Craighouse on the Isle of Jura runs from nearby Tayvallich on  most days until the end of September.  Campbeltown and Islay are a little further to travel but offer numerous distilleries to choose from.

On your return, after a restorative dram in The General's Bar or in front of the fire in one of our lounges, you can treat yourself to a five course dinner in the Westward Restaurant, or you may prefer to have fish and chips in the bar or try our range of fresh seafood dishes in the Seafood Bar.

Boat trips on the MV Sgarbh

The Crinan Hotel offers boat trips on the MV Sgarbh on some of the finest cruising waters in the world, never mind just the west coast of Scotland.

The MV Sgarbh is a fully restored classic motor boat based at Crinan right outside the hotel which overlooks the Crinan Canal, the gateway to the Atlantic and the islands.

Sgarbh is coming to the end of her summer season, but there are still opportunities to get afloat with several other boat operators in the area - Sandy Campbell's splendid Stormforce RIB  Venture West runs trips out of Crinan on most days and the Hotel's Reception can give details of other alternatives.

Crinan Gallery and Exhibitions

In the Hotel's Gallery, we currently have an exhibition of  new work by  Frances Macdonald.

After a successful exhibition in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival, Frances is now busy painting more pictures for an exhibition in London in January.

Paintings by Frances Macdonald are in several important private collections at home and abroad as well as corporate collections including Fleming's Scottish Collection.

And, when not painting, Frances helps run the Crinan Hotel masquerading under the name Ryan.
