The United Methodist Church of Evergreen
Pastor Russell Fletcher

7th Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, July 23, 2017
8:30 and 10:30 am

Russell's Ritings,

I am sure you have both heard and used the phrase, "famous last words."
Here are some perennial favorites:

"I am sure we have enough gas to get there."
"I am sure we can get there in plenty of time."
"I am sure this road will get us there quicker."
"I am sure we can get a ticket at the gate."
"I am sure we can find their house."

One church growth expert said the famous last words of the church would be, "We have always done it that way."

Well, everyone knows that the church talks about money in November.  And we will do that.

However, this Sunday as we continue the series on David stories we look at what I consider the greatest stewardship verse in the Bible.  The story is about David and Araunah.  It's a wonderful story and a great lesson.  I hope you will be here!

And the folks are friendly,

Russell

BOARD OF DIRECTORS POSITION WITH
EVERGREEN CHRISTIAN OUTREACH

Our church has long been a supporter of Evergreen Christian Outreach (EChO), an organization dedicated to serving our Evergreen neighbors when they need help.  EChO's bylaws state that it is "a charity following the Gospel of Jesus Christ that calls us to 'feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick and imprisoned' (Matthew 25:35-36); and 'to love one another as He has loved us' (John 13:34). To fulfill that purpose, EChO's stated mission is "to provide assistance to residents of Evergreen mountain communities who are unemployed, under-employed, dealing with a long term illness, or experiencing other forms of personal crisis."

This congregation has not only supported EChO generously with donations of money and food, but has also traditionally had one of its members on the EChO Board of Directors.  That person at present is JoAnn Vogt.  However, JoAnn's three-year term ends this fall.  The Board no longer automatically includes a representative of each Evergreen-area church; instead, EChO seeks to recruit directors with expertise in fundraising, marketing, nonprofit financial issues and the like.  Recognizing this focus, JoAnn has told the Board that she would look within her own church to see whether anyone with such qualifications would be interested in applying for Board membership to succeed her when her term ends.

The Board meets on the third Thursday evening of each month.  New directors are elected by the Board after submitting information about themselves and their interests to the Board's nominating committee and meeting with the Board president (currently Mark Hines, husband of our 8:30 pianist Karen Hines).

Anyone interested in this opportunity for service is encouraged to contact Pastor Russell or JoAnn ( [email protected]) (303-674-0748).  Information about EChO can also be found at evergreenchristianoutreach.org.
