St. Paul's Church

October 27, 2017

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

On October 31, 2017 many of our kids and grandkids will be giddy with excitement about going from house to house trick or treating.  The same day is a very important day in the history of the Protestant Church, as it marks the 500 th anniversary of the Reformation.  The history is important to us.

On that day Martin Luther hammered on the door of Wittenburg Chapel his "95 Theses" which outlined the ways in which the Roman Catholic Church had departed from Biblical orthodoxy.  Luther had hoped to reform the Church from within, but we know that countless denominations were formed in the years that followed, one of which was our own Anglican Church.

While we mourn the countless fissures in the church here on earth, we celebrate the fact that in Heaven, as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus we will be forever joined as One Body.  We remain grateful for the bravery of Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, Thomas Cranmer and countless other Reformers who stood firm against unimaginable pressures to compromise the true faith.

Now as we prepare to open our new church on Flamevine Lane, we know that the same faith which set ablaze fires of revival across Europe 500 years ago, is the same faith which is transforming hearts today.  I especially want to invite you to join the Alpha Team led by Fr. John Nyhan.  The Alpha Course is an outstanding introduction to the Christian faith which will help newcomers to St. Paul's get to know what we are all about-having a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Thank you again for your partnership in the Gospel!

Gratefully in Christ,

Pr. Jon

  A R elationship Worth Pursuing

SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME will touch your heart and inspire you to make a difference in your world!" On opening weekend, the film received an "A" CinemaScore and a 93% positive rating from fans on Rotten Tomatoes.   Have you seen it? If so, be sure to let everyone know how much you liked it.
If you haven't gone yet, be sure to see  SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME this week. As moviegoers everywhere will tell you: you don't want to miss it!

The Los Angeles Times says SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME, "... boasts a trio of uncommonly sensitive, affecting, and nuanced actors in the lead roles." Debbie (played by RenĂ©e Zellweger) encourages her husband Ron (Greg Kinnear) to befriend a man they meet while serving at a homeless shelter.
New Church Parking
Our goal is to be a blessing to our Village Beach neighbors.  Legally we are free to park in the public parking areas, however, in order to minimize stress on the downtown Village Beach parking, we are encouraging St. Paul's folks, whenever possible, to park at the International Office Building.  If you have special needs, we want you to park in the church parking lot.  See below for details.

Housing for Feb. 18 Visitors

In anticipation of the consecration of the new church building, we hope to have a number of out-of-town guests. We are looking for St. Paul's folks who would be willing to serve as host families. Please contact the church office if you would like to be a host.  Thank you.
