Our preacher this Sunday is The Rev. Dr. Tricia Lyons, the new Missioner for Evangelism and Community Engagement for the Diocese of Washington. Before taking this position, she spent 20 years working in Episcopal schools as chaplain, teaching theology and directing community service. She is married to a professor at the Virginia Theological Seminary and lives on campus. Tricia is the author of two books on faith formation, The Soul of Adolescence (a study of adolescent spirituality) and earlier this year, "Teaching Faith with Harry Potter."

Our music on Sunday at 10am honors the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, which many date to the eve of All Saints Day, October 31, 1517 when Martin Luther, then an Augustinian monk, was said to have nailed his "95 theses" to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church in Germany. He likely simply posted an announcement of an academic debate of these questions, but his actions set in motion a cascade of changes in the church and beyond. In 2001, the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America entered into a relationship of full communion with one another.

Plan to come Next Sunday, Nov. 5th, to celebrate All Saints Day and baptize Henry Wallace, son of Katie and Allan Wallace! Great music with guest trumpeter, and brunch afterward to celebrate all our saints and the close of our formal stewardship campaign.

Names of saints: before the services, there will be an opportunity to adorn the sanctuary with the names of the saints who've shaped your faith and life: those loved ones who've died and those still living. They will become a visual symbol of the communion of all the saints!

Prime Timers: The Prime Timers will meet in the church undercroft on Thursday, November 2nd from 11:30 - 1:30 for social time, lunch, and to enjoy a speaker. The cost of the lunch is $10.00. November 2 - Grit and Gusto: Farmerettes and Suffragettes on the Homefront in WWI. This new presentation highlights how women in Maryland rallied to new involvement and activism during 1917-1918.

CPR & AED/First Aid Class - Are you interested in learning CPR and First Aid or re-certifying a lapsed license? Two years ago, a group of people from CCPK took this class and received certification. Upcoming Confirmations: At 10:00am on Nov 11th at the National Cathedral, four youth, Ellie Flynn, Olivia Deelen, Shelby Hutton, Aiden Finn; and two adults, Madison Chase and Lindsay Conn from Christ Church will be confirmed. It's a beautiful service and all are welcome!

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service Mark your calendars for the annual Kensington Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 21 at 7:30 pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Come for an evening of prayer, song, food and fellowship! Sponsored by the Kensington Ministerium.

Thanksgiving Day Eucharist Christ Church will hold a traditional Thanksgiving Day service on Thursday, November 23rd at 10 am. Join us and give thanks!

Leviticus 19:1-2,15-18

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

You shall not render an unjust judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great: with justice you shall judge your neighbor. You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not profit by the blood of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

You shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin; you shall reprove your neighbor, or you will incur guilt yourself. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

1 Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,

Matthew 22:34-40

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
