After-School Homework Clubs really  make a difference

Kyle* is a 7th grader in the middle school
After-School Homework Club . He joined Homework Club a few months into the school year after having a particularly troubling time with family. In general he always seemed content to be here, simply as a safe, relatively calm, predictable place to spend some time before going home, though could never be persuaded to put much time or enthusiasm into his schoolwork.

One day recently, at the conclusion of our designated homework time,  while the rest of the students were packing up their books, Kyle approached our newest intern who is particularly nurturing and patient. He asked her if she would help him study for an upcoming test he was worried about. She of course agreed, and they sat together for a while with Kyle happily accepting her suggestions to make flash cards and create mnemonic devices to help learn some complicated vocabulary terms.

It was wonderful to see Kyle take this kind of initiative to engage with one of our support staff members, illustrating the amazing affect that our large and diverse network of support can have on our clients.  Thank you to you for your support of Beverly Bootstraps that enables us to provide kids like Kyle this opportunity.
