Teaching and Coaching Workshop Announced for September 21, 2017

The Education Committee is happy to announce the creation of the Colorado PGA Fall Teaching and Coaching Workshop. This one-day, hands-on workshop will feature some of the best instructors in the Colorado Section sharing their insights into the game in a 30 minute Ted-Talks style presentation.

14 Colorado PGA Professionals to Compete in CoBank Colorado Open

The Colorado PGA will be represented this week as Green Valley Ranch Golf Club plays host to the 2017 CoBank Colorado Open. Highlighting the Colorado PGA contingent are former Colorado PGA Player of the Years Geoff Keffer and Caine Fitzgerald, as well as many others.

Volunteers Needed for USOC FLAME Program

We are looking for volunteers to help at the USOC FLAME program on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the Club at Flying Horse from 3:00p to 6:00p. The program will include four stations for students: Full Swing, Chipping, Putting and Career Development.

Opportunities Still Available to Volunteer for Drive, Chip and Putt Local and Sub-Regional Qualifiers

As we are now within one year of the MSR deadline, we want to remind you that we have a number of Drive, Chip and Putt volunteer opportunities that members can take advantage of. Opportunities to volunteer are available at the following events:

July 31, 2017 -  Colorado National Golf Club
 
August 2, 2017 -  The Club at Flying Horse

August 12, 2017 - CommonGround Golf Course

August 19, 2017 - Walnut Creek Golf Preserve 

Volunteer opportunities begin at 7:00am for each event and run until approximately 4:00 pm. You may volunteer for any portion of the event. One MSR point can be earned for every hour of volunteering.

The West Chapter Stroke Play Championship is coming up on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Eagle Ranch Golf Course. The event is open to all Colorado PGA members and apprentices in good standing.

Afternoon Spots Still Available at the Club at Pradera Pro Am

A dozen spots are still available in the afternoon shotgun start at the Club at Pradera Pro Am set for Monday, July 24, 2017. Format for the team competition is a One Low Gross/One Low Net Shamble. The deadline has been extended until 5:00pm today, Thursday, July 20, 2017.

O'Shaughnessy Wins Pro-Lady at Indian Peaks Golf Club

Dan O'Shaughnessy, PGA head professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course won the 2017 Pro Lady at Indian Peaks GC after posting an 8-under-par 64. Rick Cole, PGA head professional at Eaton Country Club finished in second place, one stroke back at 7-under-par 65.

July 26 Deadline Quickly Approaching to Register for Colorado PGA Senior Professional Championship 

Registration for the Colorado Senior PGA Professional Championship is now open! The event, open to all PGA Members 50 years of age and older as of Sept. 28, 2017, will be held at Valley Country Club, Aug. 14-15, 2017. The deadline to register is Wednesday, July 26, 2017!

Match Play Championship - POD Play Deadline Monday, July 31

Results are coming in daily for the 2017 Match Play Championship as the round robin match play round is nearing an end on Monday, July 31. For those of you that have completed matches but not reported your match results, please be sure to send them to Justin Limon, PGA ([email protected]) as soon as possible.

The Club at Ravenna Set to Host the Colorado PGA Women's Championship -- Registration Deadline Set for Aug. 16, 2016
 
The Colorado PGA's Women's Championship will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 22-23, at The Golf Club at Ravenna. The championship is open to all female PGA and LPGA members in good standing whom reside or work within the Colorado Section boundaries.

2017 Colorado PGA Professional Championship -- Registration Deadline Aug. 23

Registration is now open for the 2017 Colorado PGA Professional Championship set for the Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club, September 11-13, 2017.  The event is open to call Class A Members as well as members classified as Life Member Active and Life Member Master Professional Active. The entry fee for the event is $250.  The deadline to register is
August 23, 2017.

On Sunday, July 16, CBS Sports presented "Turning Passion into Profession"-an hour-long special narrated by PGA Professional Gary McCord, which introduces viewers to PGA Professionals nationwide and highlights the diverse roles they play as experts in the game and business of golf. The 2017 PGA Fashion and Demo Experience is being held Aug. 14-16 at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino, Las Veges.

Broadmoor Preparing to Host 2018 U.S. Senior Open

The Broadmoor Golf Club hosted a kickoff event Tuesday in advance of the 2018 U.S. Senior Open coming to Colorado Springs next summer.  The tournament will start June 28 and last through July 1.  Broncos General Manager John Elway will serve as the tournament's honorary chairman.  The tournament is currently accepting applications for volunteers  to help out for the event. 

All You Need to Know About Overland Park GC Concert

On Tuesday, the City of Denver released the negotiated terms for allowing festival organizer Superfly Productions, the promoter behind Outside Lands and Bonnaroo, two of the country's larger music events, to hold a large-scale music festival at Overland Park,  a city-owned golf course in Denver's Ruby Hill neighborhood.
Stellar Showing -- Colorado's Kupcho Finishes 21st Overall, 2nd Low Amateur, in U.S. Women's Open

In her second straight year of competing at the U.S. Women's Open, Jennifer Kupcho of Westminster proved to be a quick learner on the biggest stage in women's golf.
 
Not only did the 20-year-old reach her goal of making the cut at the most prestigious women's tournament, but she finished the No. 2 amateur in the field at Trump National in Bedminster, N.J.

Three Colorado Juniors Competing in Girls PGA Championship

Another day, another record-tying performance at the 42nd Girls Junior PGA Championship at the Country Club of St. Albans, Lewis and Clark Course.  Rose Zhang, of Irvine, California, carded a 7-under 65, a personal best that ties her with Vicki Goetze-Ackerman (1990) for the lowest second-round score in Championship history. She shares the 36-hole lead at 10-under 134 with Yealimi Noh and Hailee Cooper, who, on Tuesday, tied the lowest 18-hole score in Championship history with a 64.

CO Golf Hall of Famer Jobe Falls Just Short at Another Senior Major, Placing 2nd at Senior Players

Brandt Jobe recorded another stellar showing in a senior major, but he didn't leave the course smiling on Sunday.  The Colorado Golf Hall of Famer tied for second on Sunday at the Constellation Senior Players Championship in Baltimore. The former Coloradan has clearly become one of the top players on the PGA Tour Champions circuit. In nine senior majors since turning 50 two years ago, Jobe owns five top-five performances and six top-10s. He was third two weeks ago in the U.S. Senior Open.

Three for Three -- Colorado Junior America's Cup Teams Set

From a Colorado perspective, the Junior America's Cup competitions have rightfully gained additional attention in recent years. 

Aurora's Bryant Posts 71 in Opening Round of U.S. Junior Amateur

Davis Bryant of Aurora continued his strong play by shooting an even-par 71 in Monday's opening round of stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kan., just east of Wichita.

Bryant, winner of the first two majors of the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado's 2017 season, shares 30th place with one round remaining in stroke play. The 17-year-old, who has verbally committed to play his college golf at Colorado State University beginning in 2018, made two birdies and two bogeys on Monday.
