The
BWI Business Partnership has been the Transportation Management Association for
Ft. Meade since 1985.
MeadeRide
was established in 2008 to support commuting choices for the 5,550 employees whose job sites were relocated from Northern Virginia to Ft. Meade
, as part of the Base Realignment and Closer process (BRAC). It was initially funded by MDOT using a federal TIGER grant (Transportation Investment) and the
BWI Business Partnership
was assigned to lead the effort by the Lt. Governor of MD.
By serving as a clearinghouse for commuter bus-pools, vanpools, carpool matching and public transit information, 25% of those relocating to Ft. Meade were able to commute by means other than driving alone - which helped mitigate the already daunting commuter traffic issues in the Ft. Meade region. For the overall effort, the
Association of Commuter Transportation recognized the Partnership as the
"Transportation Management Association of the Year" at their 2011 International Conference in Chicago.
Today,
MeadeRide continues to be assist both commuters to the Ft. Meade region and people who live on or near the installation, and their inquiries are triaged and answered or referred to appropriate transportation entities.
