National Volunteer Week - Thank You to All Volunteers!

Over 12.7 million Canadians volunteer in non-profit organizations, and Rope Skipping Alberta is privileged to have some of the finest supporting the development of skippers across Alberta.

From the neighbour who volunteers to be the driver for skippers attending a Jump Rope for Heart demo to the coaches who spend countless hours developing practice plans, from the parent who nervously volunteers to be a member of the club's board of directors to the experienced official who spends extra time mentoring a new judge, volunteers are critical to skipping in Alberta.

Thank you to everyone who volunteers their time and talents to the development of rope skipping!

Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.  ~Elizabeth Andrew

A Sport Parent's Guide to Long-Term Athlete Development
As parents, we recognize that sports and physical activity play an important role in our children’s healthy growth and development, but recently physical activity has suffered serious decline among Canadian children.

Medical and sport research shows that our children are increasingly at risk for obesity and disease due to low levels of activity and poor nutritional habits.

SIRC Blog: Resolving Conflict within a Youth Sport Team
Being part of a team can be one of the most supportive environments to learn and grow as an athlete and as an individual. However, pushing both ourselves as athletes and our teams to improve can be a challenging process. Sport by nature can be competitive and fraught with conflict. Working with multiple personalities and strengths can cause friction, frustration and conflict between teammates. When teammates are in conflict it can have a huge impact on team dynamics and team cohesion. It is how we work through the elements of conflict that helps us determine success. [Read more]
