I've been thinking a lot about widows lately...
---
They say, "Lonliness is all that it's cracked up to be". And so when I hear that women in our church are struggling with tasks that "my husband" used to take care of, it always reminds me of the practical value of our "work."
In Acts, chapter 6, when it was discovered that the needs of the widows were not being affectively met, it was determined that men (servants- deacons), if you will, should be chosen to assist the apostles in a very needful aspect of the work. Especially in a day when there was so social "safety net" to turn this job over to, this service was needed in the first century where a widow was nearly without hope. The church was called to minister in ways that only the church can do.
What an opportunity we have in the community and in our church to assist the saints who for no fault of their own, are alone and needing assistance.
To that end, here is an opportunity if you are available:
- 2 yards of bark need to be spread at the home of one of our families.
- I told her I would be there on Friday to at least the start the project.
- If you are interested, you can talk to me tomorrow at Men's group, or call me at 616.546.0292
- I don't anticipate it taking very long, so if you cannot come on Friday morning, then another time would be fine as well.
- BURPING IS ALLOWED, EVEN BELCHING
To your better week, I pray good things.
