President's Message
Donna Broderick
"Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in  giving creates love." Lao Tzu

We were excited to celebrate kindness this week at our Giving Tuesday Event - our celebration of what our member's generosity and the work of our partner nonprofits has accomplished.

Just this year, by collectively pooling our donations, Impact 100 was able to award over $400,000 through 4 grants of $101,500 to nonprofits in our community. Your donations will help outfit a kitchenette providing food for the homeless and others in need ( St. Francis Seraph Ministries & Center for Respite Care), provide treatment to veterans suffering from PTSD while saving wild mustangs (Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding & Horsemanship), change behaviors, attitudes and responses to witnessed acts of violence through a prevention program (Women's Crisis Center), and educate students in practical, application based mathematics in order to
better prepare them for a career in the construction trade (Greater Cincinnati Construction).

As we come to the end of our 15th anniversary we look at all that Impact 100 has been able to accomplish. More important than the $3.6 million invested and the 33 grants awarded since 2001 is the more than 175,000 lives we have touched in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky community as a result of your kindness! THANK YOU!

The nonprofit agencies in our community continue to show a very strong interest in applying for an Impact 100 grant.  Over 150 agency representatives have registered to attend the Information Sessions, and many have begun the process of completing a Letter of Intent (LOI).  We are looking forward to reviewing their creative proposals.

I'd like to extend a special thanks to the members of the 2016 Board for their outstanding leadership, service, passion and hard work.  They've left a solid foundation for continued growth.  We're sad to say farewell to our departing members: Susan Cranley, Marilyn Kinne, Teresa Loje, Kelly Mahan, Becki Meyer, Daniela Neukam, Angie Otis and Delane Starliper.

Shauna Murphy is the proud principal of Woodward Career Technical High School.
The Impact 100 recipient crystal was dropped off with Woodward Career Technical High School on November 15th.  The ACI and Greater Cincinnati Construction Foundation is teaming up with Woodward for the " Constructing a Pathway Out of Poverty"  Program. This will expand the Woodward Career Technical High School program by developing & implementing a practical, application-based math program in the middle schools to increase eligible placement of students into the high school program which prepares them to enter the construction trade.

Photos from Woodward HS of program in action!

The 9th graders were going to learn about fasteners, but instead had a wonderful opportunity to work with Mr. Davis' upper level students and try some concrete work!

Ernst had brought a mixer and workers from Lithko were ready to show them some valuable new skills. They started off with a warm-up routine of stretches, and the students soon learned how valuable that was when they participated in the hard work of raking concrete.

Impact 100's 2014 grant recipient, MYCincinnati continues to expand its program offerings and  its enrollment. Today, MYCincinnati has over 100 students, each engaged in musical programming for 10-20 hours per week. In addition to MYCincinnati's core string orchestra program, a bra nd new Wind Ensemble (flute and clarinet) has been added.

MYCincinnati has also partnered with ArtWorks this year to create a pilot Youth Apprentice Program, engaging five MYCincinnati teenagers. Each Apprentice creates their own work program, depending on their interests and career goals. As they work, they gain meaningful experience in the areas of Teaching Artistry, Program Site Coordination, and
Development.

A weekly Adult Orchestra has also been formed, as a collaboration with Price Hill Will's Creative
Placemaking Department. Over 30 Price Hill adults are learning violin, viola, and cello.

This year, expect to see collaborative performances with Hip-Hop artist Napoleon Maddox, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and more. A second, new Ambassador Ensemble is also being formed, and will embark on a journey of critical reflection, collaboration, and collective action.

Also, the Co-Founder and Director of MYCincinnati, Eddy Kwon, was just named a USA Ford Fellow. Congratulations to Eddy! Read more about him  HERE.

Member Spotlight!
Molly Fitzmaurice

Who am I?
Thirty-two years ago my husband and I moved to Loveland for what we thought was a two year stay before another transfer.  We loved the area and the easy to come by friendships and put down deep roots which have kept us here ever since.  I retired after 40 years in corporate America.  After all those years of structure my retirement plan was not to plan and see where my interests and opportunities would take me.  Having more time for outdoor pursuits (cycling, gardening, and a good book with a glass of wine on our deck), travel, and volunteering have filled my days and are a constant reminder of how fortunate I am.

What got you involved in Impact 100?
A good friend and Impact member invited me to a Giving Tuesday event.  I spoke to each of the attending nonprofits learning about their mission and current projects.  Then as a guest at a workshop for prospective grant applicants I heard three past recipients share the path they traveled to receive their grants.  Through those interactions with the Impact 100 vision, professionalism, and vetting process I knew I wanted to be part of this organization.

What keeps you a member?
It's been easy to stay committed to the Impact 100 mission.  I attend as many of the events as possible to learn more about the inspirational work being done by nonprofits in our community.  It's important to me that 100% of my donation will go to earmarked projects which have been thoroughly vetted by Impact professionals and selected by the members. Impact 100's "no pressure" philosophy makes it easy to volunteer (or not).  I choose to volunteer at events which has made it easy to meet other members and it has deepened my connection to the organization.
