The Cornelius PARC Department wants to help you be a healthier you! Starting November 7, 2017, through February 2018, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m., the Bailey Road Park Track will be open and lighted for public use.

Come and enjoy a safe place to walk, run or throw the ball around with family and friends.

Robbins Park Trail Head
Hike Cornelius
Saturday, November 4

Enjoy a free, guided hike through the Robbins Park trail system, along with Cornelius PARC and Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists. Pre-registration encouraged but walk-up registration is also welcome for this leisurely two-mile hike. Please no strollers or pets. Read more.

Veterans Day Celebration Veterans Day Programs
Saturday, November 11
The Town of Cornelius has expanded its Veterans Day activities to include an Open House event for families prior to our traditional program! Start the morning at the Cornelius Arts Center, 9:00-10:30 am, with patriotic arts & crafts. Then head over to the Cornelius Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza for our Celebration at 11:00 am. We hope you will join us for these programs honoring veterans and those currently serving in our Armed Forces.

Kick off the holidays by joining us on the Cornelius Town Hall lawn for our 6th annual tree lighting event. Festivities will include a visit from Santa, carriage rides, arts & crafts, train display, special performances and more! Fall B Adult and Youth Classes begin the week of October 30 and a few spaces remain - register now!  Join us for Halloween at the Center  and Trunk or Treat with the Cornelius Police Department on Saturday, October 28, 2:00-6:00 pm.

Drop-In Art has been expanded! Ages 2 and up can join us for one or more mixed-media projects adaptable to any age - and now it is offered Monday through Thursday, 10:00 am-12:00 pm each week! Register online or pay at the door, $5 per child per hour.

Patriotic Art Be sure to stop by our  Veterans Day Open House  on Saturday, November 11, prior to the Veterans Day Celebration at Town Hall. Children and their parents will be able to create thank you cards for the troops, make patriotic crafts and decorate cookies in red, white and blue! No registration required, all activities are free, 9:00-10:30 am.

Register now for these Youth and Adult Holiday Workshops : Holiday Ceramic Ornaments, Nov 6 and 13, ages 6-10; Holiday Greeting Cards, Dec 2, ages 7-11; Winter Scenes in Watercolor, Nov 11, ages 16+; and Holiday Greeting Cards in Watercolor, Nov 18, ages 16+ .
 
Cocoa with SantaBeginning November 27, children may bring letters to Santa's Mailbox. If you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, Santa will write back! And save the date for our popular Cocoa with Santa event on Friday, December 1, 10:00 am-12:00 pm. The fun will include free photo opportunities with Santa, snacks, cocoa and cool holiday crafts! Don't forget to bring your camera or phone for taking pictures.

FITNESS CLASSES   Get Fit

We offer a variety of challenging and fun fitness options all year long. No classes November 20-25 during Thanksgiving week. Currently registering for:  

tai chi Tai Chi:  This ancient practice offers a fitness exercise as well as a moving meditation. Beginner classes are held Thursdays or Saturdays, 9:00-10:00 am; intermediate classes are held 10:15-11:15 am. The current seven-week sessions are starting October 26 and 28 but you can still register - just give us a call! The next sessions begin in January.

Senior Fit Club : Low impact workouts designed for adults ages 50 and up to increase strength, flexibility and balance. Choose two or three days per week, Mondays, Wednesdays and/or Fridays, 11:00-11:50 am, at Fitness by Jeri. The next six-week session begins October 30.

Cardio Funk with Lem Houston:  Use dance moves and music inspired by pop and hip hop in this high energy cardio class. Mondays, 6:30-7:30 pm, and/or Saturdays, 9:00-10:00 am, at Bailey Road Recreation Center. Registration will be taken at the door, so come early! Cost is  $5 per person per class or $40 for a 10-class pass.

MOVE Strength+Core: Drop in at Bailey Road Recreation Center on Tuesday nights, 6:30-7:30 pm, for this class that combines dynamic cardio exercise, yoga, Pilates, strength training, core work and athletic stretching into one workout. Registration will be taken at the door, so come early! Cost is $8 per person per class or $70 for a 10-class pass.

RECREATION PROGRAMS

Lake Norman Teen Council: Want to meet new friends or have something fun to do that looks great on your college application? This group provides service projects, workshops, trips and more! Now accepting applications.

Lake Norman Bridge Center conducts ACBL-sanctioned, open, stratified bridge games at Town Hall on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, as well as lessons, for all ages and skill levels. Get in on the game! (No bridge the weeks of November 2 and November 20.)

Cornelius Youth Orchestras: Calling student musicians! Do you dream of playing in an orchestra? CYO invites you to attend our youth orchestra rehearsals on Tuesday evenings.

Youth Basketball:  Online registration ends October 29 OR UNTIL FULL and some divisions are already sold out. We still need volunteer coaches, timers/scorekeepers and sponsors. Don't forget about Skills Assessments, November 4-8.

Winter LacrosseRegister now for the winter season with Xtreme Lacrosse. The Penguin Games, a competitive league for boys in grades 4-9, will play on Saturday afternoons starting in December (no weekday practices). Skill Clinics for boys and girls in grades 2-9, beginner to advanced, will run on Sunday afternoons. Both Penguin Games and Skill Clinics will be held on the field at JV Washam Elementary.
