Finance for All Officers - Why?

The IRS says that ALL officers have a fiduciary responsibility when they are on the board of any nonprofit (including the PTA).

What does this mean? "I didn't know, I wasn't the treasurer" is not considered an acceptable response.

It means all officers need to understand the financial process and if something is unclear, ask questions.

Helping to ensure the continuity of the PTA from year to year is helped by having all officers understand parliamentary basics and bylaws too.

Please plan to have officer(s) from your unit attend one or both of these workshops: Finance for all Officers and Parliamentarian Basics

Ever Have Problems Accessing Your e-Bylaws Account Online?

Many people are having issues with the e-bylaws site; they only see a blank screen with no login box.  E-Bylaws is dependent on an Adobe Flash plug-in; and many times the issue is with the Adobe Flash plug-in.  Here are some tips to help you log on:

E-Bylaws - Trouble Shooting:
  • Confirm that you are running the most current version of Flash.
  • Try different browsers and for Mac users, Safari doesn't seem to work well - try Chrome.
  • E-Bylaws seem to work best when you close all other browser windows and have only one open for e-Bylaws. Also, works better when you go directly to the e-Bylaws online system after starting your computer. www.ebylaws.capta.org
  • Keep only one browser window open for e-Bylaws and close all other windows.
  • Make sure the Adobe Flash plug-in has not been blocked on your computer.
  • Go to your browser's settings, for Chrome, it was in Advanced settings: Content Settings: Flash: Add "ebylaws.capta.org" to the list of "Allow Sites to run Flash".
  • Other browsers "Show Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the page and under Privacy select the "Content Settings" button. In this box find the "Flash" section and check the box to "Allow sites to run Flash" add "ebylaws.capta.org" and then Done.

Questions, please contact Linda Pfeifer, Sixth District Parliamentarian.

Questions to Ask During the Parent-Teacher Conference

  • What subject does my student like most? Least?
  • What can I do to help my student with subjects he finds difficult?
  • How can I help my student study? Prepare for class? Improve his work? A good time to ask these questions is when the teacher gives you samples of your son's or daughter's work.
  • Is my student trying as hard as he/she can?
  • Does my student participate in class discussions and activities?
  • Is my student in different classes or groups for different subjects? Which ones? How are the groups determined?
  • How well does my student get along with others?
  • Has my student missed classes?
  • Have you noticed changes in the way my student acts? For example, have you noticed squinting, tiredness, or moodiness that might be a sign of physical or other problems?
  • How are you measuring my student's progress? Through tests? Portfolios? Class participation? Projects?
  • What kinds of tests do you give? What do the tests show about my student's progress? How does my student handle taking tests?
