HOMECOMING  2017/ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

On Saturday, October 14th, many Alumnae, family and friends gathered at SBA to join in the celebration of Homecoming 2017/ Athletic Hall of Fame Induction.  The night was filled with laughter, hugs and reminiscing of memories from four years at SBA. Representatives from differe nt graduating classes were present and enjoyed connecting  with their fellow Basil Sisters. The Class of 1972 took this opportunity to celebrate their 45th reunion of their graduation.  The Alumnae were excited to reconnect with their principals, Sister Dorothy Ann, Sister Joanne, and Sister Carla, along with their teachers Sister Suzanne and Sister Clement.
 
We would like to once again congratulate our Sports Hall of Fame Inductees

PINK DAY
On Thursday. October 19th, the SBA community celebrated PINK Day and raised awareness about Breast Cancer Research. Students, faculty, and staff raised $1,166.00 for the cause. Two organizations will each receive $583.00 from our PINK Day proceeds - Bringing Hope Home and METAvivor, Inc. Bringing Hope Home is a non-profit organization that provides  financial and emotional support to 
local families with cancer. METAvivor, Inc. focuses on nationwide efforts to raise awareness about metastatic breast cancer and funding for those patients already diagnosed.

AUTUMN CLASSIC

On Friday, October 13th, 240 Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors and their invited guests attended the annual Autumn Classic dance, which was held at the Flourtown Country Club.  This was the first year that the dance was held at the FCC and the girls really loved it!  They particularly enjoyed the beautiful scenery from the outside deck.  It was a great night for the girls and their guests as they enjoyed some delicious food, great music and dancing, and time with their friends.

 

CHEMISTRY CLASS

SOCCER

The SBA and Gwynedd Mercy Academy Soccer teams honored their Seniors  on October 17th.  SBA came out with a 5-2 win over GMA.

For all their hard work this season, Varsity & JV Soccer celebrated at Larry's Steaks across the street from Saint Joseph's University.  Both teams beat Merion Mercy Academy last Thursday in their final games of the season.

UNION LEAGUE  LECTURE

On October 18th, members of the AP US Government and Politics Class attended a lecture at the  Union League.   "Unleashing Prosperity" was given by  economists Steve Moore and John Tammy  as a part of the Liberty Series. The series is p rovided by the Abraham Lincoln Foundation (a part of the Foundations of the Union League).

GUEST SPEAKER

On October 19th, we welcomed Dr. Colleen Hanycz as the first woman president and first lay president of La Salle University.  Throughout her accomplished career as an attorney, professor, and administrator, Dr. Hanycz has been an active proponent of Catholic education as a means to advance the common good and to celebrate the dignity of each person. She served as President at Brescia University College, a women's college, in Canada. She developed innovative academic leadership programs, instituted a public speaking contest for female high school seniors, and expanded its Girls LEAD leadership development camps to international locations.

HALLOWEEN TRIVIA - October 30th

Saint Basil Academy invites all 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls to our third annual Halloween Trivia Night on October 30th at 7pm in our Gym. Come test your academic and pop culture trivia knowledge. Our students will be there to help out and there will be candy and door prizes!
