December 5, 2016

Greetings in this season of Advent! I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.

As we begin Advent, we are faced with sad news that you have likely already heard. The previously closed Northpark abortion facility is poised to reopen. If you missed the webcast with details of this news and our plan to respond, you can watch the replay here. We hope you will join us on December 17 at 10:30 a.m. for a Prayer Service for our City led by Fr. Jason Cargo outside the facility at 8363 Meadow Rd. in Dallas.

Also this month is a special opportunity to thank God for the precious gift of life during the  National Night of Prayer for Life , a worldwide vigil from 9 p.m. on December 8 to 1 a.m. on December 9 with an "Hour of Unity" at 12 a.m. CST. A list of participating parishes may be  found here If your parish is participating but is not listed, please let me know so we can be sure to add your parish event to the calendar. The National Night of Prayer is a pro-life prayer service consisting of exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, 20 decades of the Rosary, prayer to St. Michael, silent prayer and hymns.

As we look forward to the new year, we once again need your assistance in promoting the 2017 Roe Memorial Mass and North Texas March for Life Events with Bishop Greg Kelly on January 13 and 14.  For the first time, the events will be held over two days. The schedule is as follows:

January 13, 2017

Roe Memorial Masses at 7 p.m.:
January 14, 2017
Please ensure that your parish utilizes the following promotional materials before January 13:
Please check out our web site, prolifedallas.org/roe , for additional event details and updates throughout this month.

Of course before we reach these events, we will celebrate the arrival of the Christ Child!  Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent (from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to") is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas.

The Advent season is the time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ's second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord's birth on Christmas.  The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas).

Advent devotions including the Advent wreath, remind us of the meaning of the season.  An Advent calendar can help you fully enter into the season with daily activity and prayer suggestions to prepare you spiritually for the birth of Jesus Christ.

Thanks for all you do for Life and God bless,

David Carr
