QUICK LINKS
Program Highlight - Actuarial Science Major
If you are strong in math and interested in business and economics, then you might want to consider a career in  actuarial science .  Actuaries evaluate the likelihood of future events, design creative ways to reduce the likelihood of undesirable events and decrease the impact of undesirable events. Actuaries find ways to manage risk using strong analytical skills, business knowledge and understanding of human behavior to manage the complex risks facing society today. They play key roles on management teams of companies that deal with risk, such as insurance companies and actuarial consulting firms. In a fast-changing world, with emerging risks and the need for creative ways to tackle them, there are constant opportunities for personal and professional growth. To learn more, contact departmental advisor Dr. Athena Yiamouyiannis  or professional actuary in residence, Mr. Rick Evans , or call 292-6994 for an appointment.
Summer Term 2017 Tuition Update
Ohio State's summer course structure allows for a variety of four-, six-, eight- and 12-week classes to give students more opportunities to make progress toward their degrees. For Summer Term 2017, tuition discounts also are available. These fall into two categories:
  • Tuition will be reduced 25 percent for Ohio State undergraduates taking summer classes on the Columbus campus.
  • Separately, tuition will be reduced 50 percent (for up to three credits) in place of the 25 percent discount for the first four-week summer session on all Ohio State campuses. This is available only for undergraduate, graduate and professional students who were enrolled full time at Ohio State during spring semester.
In both cases, tuition discounts apply to instructional, general and non-resident fees.
The flexibility in summer course structure and the discounted tuition are just two ways Ohio State is committed to access and affordability.  For more information see the Tuition Incentives guide and the Summer 2016 tuition and fee tables.
Student Profile - Mary Grace Thibault
Mary Grace, a double major in atmospheric sciences and anthropology, is extra busy as a member of the Ohio State Meteorology Club and a weather spotter. While at Ohio State she's taken advantage of opportunities that have expanded her knowledge in both disciplines.  A 10-week field work project in Key Largo, Florida allowed her to observe first-hand the effects of sea level rise on the Everglades. An education abroad program took her to Ireland where she took part in an archaeological excavation of a medieval monastery, attended lectures on Irish history and visited historic sites.  Read more.

Career Corner - Resume Review
As our Peer Career Advisors review resumes, we see some common areas of confusion. Are you making some of these common mistakes on your resume?
1) Not listing your education at the top of the page. This is what's most relevant to you currently, show employers you're working hard to complete a degree!
2) Listing character traits in your Skills Section. Show the recruiters you're a "team player" and have "good communication skills" through examples in your bullet points under each experience.
3) Using objective statements. These are often too broadly worded, and recruiters say they're not necessary anyways!
Does this sound like you? Would you like someone to review your document? Bring a hard copy of your resume or cover letter to 100 Denney Hall. Walk-in hour schedule can be found here. You can also reference our online tip sheets
