Service:   Recovery Day 2017

In the spirit of fitness and connection, FTR is hosting the walk at Recovery Day. We will be honored to have thousands walk with us through downtown Salt Lake City in support of recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction. Live bands, dignitaries from the national recovery movement, public officials, persons in recovery, families, community supporters, and friends of recovery will join the celebration.  At FTR we bring people together, and we couldn't be more thrilled to serve on this important day. More details on the  Facebook Event Page  and at USARA's website .  To register for the walk, go to:   National Rally for Recovery Day

The Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness (USARA) will host the National Rally for Recovery to be held on September 9, 2017. It will serve as the culmination of the many activities that take place during Recovery Month in September. Every September, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) promotes Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use issues and celebrate communities. Salt Lake City, Utah has been selected as the national hub site for the Faces and Voices of Recovery and SAMHSA Recovery Month Rally!

Community Service Pillar head Rachel Santizo has been working on a presentation for the event.  The title is "I am not a stereotype"  These brave performers take the stage at 11:45 am. Rachel herself, along with Benjamin Bilderback, JD Gibson, Liz Allen, Darci Collings, Todd Hansen, Carlos Ortiz, Jill Beard, Poet and Ian Acker. They will be breaking through stigmas and walking through their own mental barriers by making their voices heard.

Fitness:  TSC Training and Kickball Tournament

The Tactical Strength Challenge is precisely that:  a challenge.  At FTR we believe working together to meet challenges brings us together.

"When I trained for the TSC I became stronger because the people I trained with believed I could do things I didn't know I was capable of.  I met my goal and did 15 strict pull-ups!"

Nutrition/Food To Recover:

Chopped Champs!
Renaissance Ranch and FTR members squeezed into the kitchen last month to watch FTR members/professional chefs, Chris Henry and Tanner Freed battle it out! "Sous chefs" from the crowd assisted chefs as they were given a "Mystery basket" of ingredients for 2 rounds of 30 minutes each to prepare a delicious dish! Celebrity judges carefully tasted and rated each dish based on presentation, creativity, and overall taste. Both chefs produced incredibly delicious and healthy meals with wacky ingredients like canned chicken, cactus leaf, pineapple tomatillos, and raisins. A big congratulations to Tanner Freed and Sous chef Nicole Cavallaro for their victory!

Community Meal Prep:
Last month FTR members brought their share of healthy ingredients and came together to cook 5 different healthy recipes utilizing similar ingredients to keep them nourished and energized throughout their week. Look for Community Meal prep this month on Tuesday September 12th, 5:30-7pm; and Tuesday September 26th, 5:30-7pm.

FTR September Guest Chef:
Don't miss an evening with Billy Sotello, the Chef from La Caille Restaurant, an upscale French restaurant in Sandy, who will be teaching us a few of his garden-inspired recipes he likes to use in his kitchen! Tuesday, September 19th from 5:30-7pm!

Mix & Match your FTR Pillars

In one year, FTR has doubled the number of treatment centers it serves from six to 12. What's most exciting, in addition to serving more people in recovery, is that our treatment partners are mixing and matching pillars that work best for them. Some are exercise only; some combine exercise and nutrition; some choose exercise and art. There are any number of ways treatment centers and sober living houses can involve their clients in our safe, active, healthy community. Contact Georgia Gregersen for our menu of services!
