November brings cooler temperatures, many holidays, and the launch of the second session of many of our programs. We have activities for all ages and interests. Be sure to check them out below.

As weather can be unpredictable, please check our website  for all of the up-to-date information regarding all of our programs.  In the event of any changes to programs (including rain dates), our website will have the current class make-up and cancellation information!  If you're not sure, you can always call our office or email us at the information below.

Kripalu Vinyasa Yoga  moves through active, breath guided, flowing postures, allowing students to fully embody alignment and movement both energetically and physically. The sequences integrate standing, hip openers, forward bends, twists, back bends, arm balances, inversions and restorative postures while strengthening and stretching muscles, increasing bone density, releasing tension, and centering body-mind.

Ten-year-old Sophie is in for the adventure of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance). Naturally scared at first, the young girl soon realizes that the 24-foot behemoth is actually quite gentle and charming. As their friendship grows, Sophie's presence attracts the unwanted attention of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and other giants. After traveling to London, Sophie and the BFG must convince Queen Victoria to help them get rid of all the bad giants once and for all.

Pilates Mat is a pilates based fitness class with a focus on strengthening and lengthening key muscles of the pelvis, ribcage, shoulder girdle, spine, back and abdominals.  Its benefits include a healthier back, stronger pelvic floor, increased bone density, greater postural awareness, better breathing, a stronger core and greater flexibility.  Please bring your own 8" - 10" pilates ball and yoga mat.  Call Megan if you need to know where to purchase one.

Nutrition and Weights  is a total body conditioning with weights class and a nutrition class for weight management.  Our 30 minute Nutrition Class  includes basic nutrition guidelines, daily food & exercise tracking, recipes for nutrient dense meals, estimated serving sizes, reading food labels, balancing fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water, weekly weigh-ins and group support. 
Our 30 minute Total Body Conditioning with Weights  class includes strengthening and stretching all major muscle groups.  It is designed to increase lean muscle tissue and boost metabolism.  A core workout will conclude this class.  Please bring one set of weights.  Call Megan if you need to know where to purchase one.  Megan Lutz  www.peacefulwaywellness.com

My Grown Up & Me

Come paint, shimmy, paste, and squish your way through a variety of creative projects with The Clever Crayon!  Moms, Dads and caregivers will meet new friends and create lasting memories while making hand-print animals and crepe paper collage, exploring sensory materials, reading, singing and so much more!  Watch your child build fine motor and social skills in a safe, imaginative and fun filled environment.  We can't wait to see you there!

Getting Jiggy: Irish Step Dancing

Let your child experience the history and culture of Ireland! Taught by World Renown Dancing Competitors and Instructors Catie and Hali whose goal is to provide superior Irish Dance instruction to build confidence and enrich the lives of our students. The kids should bring a smile and a pair of listening ears! Sneakers or any type of soft dancing shoe, comfortable clothes and a water bottle. Information about purchasing formal Irish Dancing Gillies (shoes) and Irish Dance Practice music will be given the first week of class. Parents are encouraged to drop off students and can watch during the "open class" on the last week. Family and friends are welcome to attend the class performance, there will be plenty of photo ops to capture the action.

Choose your age group, choose your time, and come join in the fun.   

The younger ones will enjoy an innovative and wondrous dance adventure using story, music, dance, and props to stimulate their imaginations, build coordination, and learn the fundamentals of ballet technique.  Exercises work toward increasing attention span and developing the dancer's imaginative talents.

As they get a little older the dancers will still use their imaginations and bring the magical world to life through dance and music, all based in the world of ballet. 

Then older still they will be introduced to the building blocks of ballet technique in a fun and playful way.  Using imagery, rhyme, song, and imagination your dancer will develop coordination, strength, and a solid foundation for moving correctly and safely.

Tree Lighting

Every year, the Tree Lighting at North Green Gazebo helps bring Christmas to Woodbury! The event will be complete with Santa making his appearance to turn on the tree lights while the school choirs lead us in winter music. So bring your scarves, hats and holiday spirit and come down to join the fun!
Referees Needed



Basketball Referees Needed for In-House Park and Rec Program :
 
We are looking for those who know the game and enjoy being a part of our youth sports program to referee this season. 
 
We welcome experienced referees, but even if you have not refereed before, training will be provided.  Referees must be at least 15 years old.  Adults are certainly welcome, too.

Futbol Friends International and Newtown Youth Academy are proud to announce our third annual "six2six" soccer marathon to be held at NYA on Sunday, November 19 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Futbol Friends International, a locally based non-profit that promotes youth soccer all over the world, will join forces with NYA for the benefit of both AC Connecticut.
The soccer marathon will begin at 6:00am with adult play. Players between the ages of 6 and 16 are invited to play from 10:00 to 4:00.
Online registration is encouraged at FFIUSA.org. Fees are $10 per hour, or $25 for unlimited play. All participants will receive a freeT-shirt in their size.
