"Seek the Light, Be the Light"
Spiritual Reflections
By Scott Root, Campus Minister

Gospel for Sunday, October 29, 2017--30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments." --Matthew 22:34-40

Reflection--Love
The whole law, all teaching, all acts of worship, everything we do, comes down to love. Jesus clearly states that love of God and neighbor are essential to living in our relationship with Him. But what do we love? Do we love God and our neighbor? Or do we love power, money, drugs, alcohol, or sex? Do we take time each day and focus on our relationship with God, or do we try to fit Him in between work and the Monday night football game? Do we see Mass as an opportunity to grow deeper in love with God through being in his presence and receiving Him in the Eucharist, or do we go to Mass so we can check the box? Do we see Christ in the poor, the hungry, the imprisoned, or do we ignore them because they can help us be successful?

In John 3:16, we read “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” God loves us to the point of sacrificing His own Son for us. Do we love Him enough to open our hearts and minds to His Will in our lives?
Saint of the Week – All Saints (November 1)

While many saints have a specific feast day on which we celebrate their lives and work, the vast majority of the saints of heaven do not. Today we celebrate all of those men, women, and children who have gone before us and on whose shoulders we stand in our faith.

For information on more Saints, visit Franciscan Media’s Saint of the Day website .
Prayer for the Week
Listen kindly to our prayers, O Lord, and, as our faith in your Son, raised from the dead, is deepened, so may our hope of resurrection for your departed servants also find new strength. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
