Committee Corner
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of stress and uncertainty for our members in both Northern and Southern California facing devastating fires. In times of crisis, we truly see how strong the equestrian community is. Horse people from all disciplines across the state have come together to help with evacuations, offer temporary stabling, and take care of horses that aren't their own. We are extremely grateful for everyone who helped transport and shelter horses, who donated food, water, and supplies, and who risked their own safety to help rescue horses in need.  While most barns were spared by the fires, there are those that were not as lucky.  This is why the USHJA Foundation's Horseman's Assistance Fund was created. If you need assistance, please consider applying, or if you know someone in need, please spread the word. We are lucky to be a part of such a great community in Zone 10, and we hope everyone's barn life can return to normal soon!

Zone 10 Junior Riders Excel at Capital Challenge
Congratulations to Zone 10 junior riders  Stella Wasserman  (Archie Cox and Carli Postel, trainers) and  Augusta Iwasaki (Makoto Farms, trainer) on their multiple hunter championships at the Capital Challenge Horse Show (Sept 29-Oct 9) in Maryland!  After winning the World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) Pony Challenge last year, Stella took on the WCHR 3'3" Junior Hunter Challenge this year with Boss (Laura Wasserman, owner). It was only their third show together, but the pair made it look easy and brought home the WCHR 3'3" Junior Hunter National title. The pair were also champions in the 3'3" Junior Hunter, Section B, and Boss also earned the Grand and High Performance Conformation Hunter championships with professional John French in the irons.

Augusta has been unstoppable this season, and her hot streak continued at Capital Challenge. Last year, Augusta was reserve champion in the WCHR 3'6" Junior Hunter Challenge; this year, she came back to win it all aboard Small Affair (Lyn Pedersen, owner). The pair posted an impressive score of 90.33 to earn the blue ribbon. In addition, the pair also won the Grand Junior Hunter Championship and Augusta won the Best Junior Hunter Rider award!

Congratulations to both of these young riders on their remarkable accomplishments!

Help Us Shape New Horsemanship Clinics
The USHJA is exploring the development of unmounted, educational clinics that focus on horsemanship for members and non-members around the country.

To help us in the development of such clinics, we are asking for your input into the types of topics that should be covered, the best areas of the country in which to host, times of year that are most convenient for members and other aspects.

Take a short survey to help us understand what would be most important to you as we develop unmounted, educational horsemanship clinics. Thank you for your time!
