Free Community Program to Feature Renowned Speaker
Parents to learn essential tools for raising children with resiliency and balance. 

Make plans to attend a free program open to the community on  Wednesday, November 8 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.  at West Campus.  Dynamic speaker Jacqueline Rhew will present the essential tools for parents to raise their children with resiliency and balance. It is never too early or too late to learn these strategies . This presentation will review specific interventions designed to assist children in managing their anxiety as well as promote increased motivation, healthy goal setting and active school engagement for the child. 

Following Jackie's presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to attend break-out sessions presented by the Lake Park Pupil Personnel Services Team:
* How to Help Your Child Navigate Social Decision Making and the Use of Social Media
* How to Help Your Child Find Balance with a Demanding Schedule
* How to Connect and Communicate with Your Child

Reservations are not required. Babysitting services are not available. 
State Spirit Marches 
Football, tennis teams the latest to qualify for IHSA State. 

Congratulations to the Lancers football team who qualified for the IHSA Class 8A Playoffs. Lake Park will play in the opening round at  7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27 against Homewood Flossmoor High School, located at 999 Kedzie Ave, Flossmoor, IL.

Presale tickets are not available for this IHSA football playoff game. Tickets may be purchased at a cost of $5.00 the day of the game at the Homewood Flossmoor stadium. Please note: this is an IHSA State Series event and no passes, including student passes, are accepted and children of all ages and senior citizens are required to pay admission. 

Good luck to Head Coach Chris Roll and the team as they face the Vikings in the opening round of the IHSA Football playoffs. Special thanks to Lancer Nation for riding the free student fan buses headed to the game!

Congratulations to the Lancer Girls Tennis team for winning the IHSA 2A Sectional Championship title and competing in IHSA State during October 19-21. Freshman A nalisa Cruz had a great showing earning Top 24 among State competitors! 

The girls tennis program is led by Head Coach Ben Hussey and Assistant Coaches Christian Pawlak and Craig Cichowicz.
Lancer Musicians Selected to Perform
Choir and band students to participate in All-District Festivals. 

Congratulations to several choir and band students who auditioned this month and have been selected to perform in the Illinois Music Education Association District 9 Festivals. Open to the public, the Traditional Festival will be hosted at Elgin High School on Saturday, November 4 and the Jazz Festival at Bolingbrook High School on Saturday, November 18.
  • Junior Christiana Gatbunton will participate in the Traditional Festival as a Soprano 1 as well as the Jazz Festival in the Vocal Jazz 1 Ensemble as a Soprano. 
  • Junior Clarissa Consoli will participate in the Jazz Festival in Vocal Jazz 3 Ensemble as a Soprano.
  • Junior Sophia Zoltek will participate in the Jazz Festival in Vocal Jazz 3 Ensemble as an Alto.
  • Freshmen Nicole Arendt-OrahimLily Grosch, Nathan Sefton and Danny Steetz were chosen as part of a Director Selected Honor Choir and will perform at the Traditional Festival.
  • Junior harpist Jesslyn Cohen  and senior flutist Maho Nozaki will participate in the District 9 Band Festival on November 4. 
On Saturday, October 28, the Lake Park Marching Band will perform as special musical guests of the Illinois Tollway and assist with the Grand Opening of the Eastern Segment of the Illinois Route 390 Tollway. The LPMB will perform at 11:00 a.m. at the Thorndale entrance to I-390 as part of the Illinois Route 390 Trick, Trot & Roll Family Fest. Honor Roll Students Named
Lancers recognized for academic excellence last semester.

Lake Park High School is pleased to recognize students for achieving Honor Roll distinction during the second semester of the 2016-17 school year. 

Congratulations to the list of students who qualified based on their grade point average calculated from the prior semester and the following criteria: Honor Roll (4.00-4.37), High Honor Roll (4.38-4.74) or Highest Honor Roll (4.75-5.75).

Students have the option to receive a printed Honor Roll certificate. Requests can be made in the Student Services Office by visiting Mrs. Stratton at East Campus and Mrs. O'Neil at West Campus or writing and providing a student name and ID number. 
Pride in Performance Winners Announced
Congratulations to recipients named for the first grading period.

East Campus
Academics : Nick Paterala is an outstanding student in every class. He has straight As with a rigorous schedule that includes two Advanced Placement courses and three Honors courses. His work ethic and engagement in academics are top notch!

Achievement: Anthony Reichman has made significant strides with his personal health. He works hard in the fitness center and takes pride in his effort. He has set a great example for others to do the same! 

Activities: Anthony Schwegler brings a positive outlook to school everyday. He is extremely helpful to others and is a responsible member of several Lake Park activities. Those activities include Lancer HERO, Gamers Club and Special Olympics Track and Field.  

Athletics: Mariam Slimane has been the top girls Varsity Cross Country runner since the moment she stepped on campus. She works hard and pushes herself daily. Mariam has successfully established herself as a leader both inside and outside of the classroom.  

West Campus
Academics: Sahil Patel has been a member of the Math Team for four years. He was a member of the State qualifying Junior/Senior 8-person team and hopes to make a return trip to State this year. A great role model and leader on the team, Sahil recently scored a perfect 25/25 points on a North Suburban Math League contest on the topic of Trigonometry. 

Achievement : During Paige Westfall's four years at Lake Park, she has excelled not only academically, but also athletically and socially. She is currently ranked 17th in a highly competitive class. She is on the basketball team, Student Council, Math Team and a member of National Honor Society. Paige is a natural leader who is liked and respected by peers and staff alike. 

Activities: Brianna McAloon has sought opportunities to become involved in activities, athletics and multiple leadership groups, including Student Council. It is her leadership ability, personal initiative, dependability and caring attitude that prompted this nomination. Brianna is also involved in Student Council at the district level as the 2nd Vice-President of the Illinois State Student Council Executive Board. She demonstrates passion for leadership and an ability to motivate her fellow students to become involved. 

Athletics: Nicole Hansen is a 3-time Girls Golf State Qualifier. This year, she was an IHSA Regional and Sectional champion. Congratulations to Nicole for a successful 2017 season and Lake Park career! 

Sharing this recognition are members of the Boys Golf Team: Joe Abraham, Jake Dianovsky, Jordan Fischer, Al Green, Zach Place and Luke Tytus. The last time a Lake Park Boys Golf program qualified for the State Series as a team was 2003. These students are all members of the 2017 IHSA State qualifying Golf Team who finished in 8th place overall.
Supporting our Troops and Veterans
School sponsored events benefit those who protect and serve.

The student led Veterans Service Organization sponsored a successful "needs" drive this week to collect supplies as stocking stuffers for
the troops. VSO will donate the contributions to Operation Support Our Troops-America in time for the holidays.

Once again, Lake Park is honored to partner with American Legion Post 1084 in Roselle to sponsor a "Veterans Benefit Concert" in the West Campus auditorium on Friday, November 10. To help raise funds to support Veterans programs, Post 1084 will host a concert featuring the popular Beatles tribute band American English.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students with an ID; all proceeds benefit Post 1084's Veterans Programs. These programs include, "Gifts to the Yanks" which provides comfort items to veterans in local nursing homes; Operation Comfort Warrior that supports wounded soldiers and their families; and the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. Advance tickets can be purchased at the American Legion or when the doors open at 6:00 p.m. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m.

Portillo's Dine to Donate
Benefit Lake Park's World Language Department on Monday, October 30 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. by dining at the Bloomingdale Portillo's, 134 E. Lake Street.   Show the flyer  to the cashier and Portillo's will donate 20 percent of the proceeds back to the students who are fundraising for their exchange trip to France. 

Chipotle Dine to Donate
Join the students enrolled in Advanced Placement Stats on Thursday, November 2 at the Bloomingdale Chipotle, 170 E. Lake Street, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. for a good cause.  Show the flyer to the cashier and Chipotle will donate 50 percent of the proceeds back to the AP students who are fundraising for their spring break trip to England. Students will visit sites in England such as Stonehenge, Buckingham Palace, Emirates Aviation Experience, Eden Project, and Royal Observatory in Greenwich to prepare for the AP Statistics exam while on location collecting data. 

5th Annual Best Pizza in Lancerland
Bring your appetite and cast a vote for the best!
 
The Lake Park Choral Parent Association will host the Fifth Annual "Best Pizza in Lancerland" on Thursday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m.  in the East Campus student cafeteria. Competing for bragging rights to be voted "best" pizza in several categories, the following Lancerland pizzerias will be participating
* Cousins
* Giordanos
* Italian Pizza Kitchen
* Lou Malnati's
* Pizzeria Antica

A panel of judges from Lake Park's staff will determine the winners in each category based on the results of a blind taste test. In addition, all Lake Park students will be able to vote for their favorite pizzeria overall that will win the "Students' Choice Award." 

Admission of $5 will be charged at the door for tasters over 5 years old. Beverages, ice cream, and raffle tickets will also be available for sale. Families are encouraged to attend this fun-filled event, which benefits the Lake Park Choral program and will include performances by the choir. 
Thespians Stage Next Production
Contemporary play explores family relationships.

The 2017-18 theatre season continues with Close Ties  by Elizabeth Diggs. The curtain rises on this contemporary play at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 9-11 at the East Campus Dice Auditorium.  Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for non-Lake Park students; and senior citizens and Lake Park students are free. When grandmother, Josephine (senior Holli Chandler), starts to show signs of senility, her daughter Bess (freshman Lily Grosch) and son-in-law Watt (senior Scott Willy) are forced to make some tough decisions about their mother's welfare. They each experience conflict with their children Anna (junior Ashley Kuril), Evelyn (sophomore Nina Dolan), Connie (senior Amanda Brommel) and Thayer (sophomore Matt Steiner). Evelyn's boyfriend Ira (junior Athens Boyle) arrives for the weekend and gains the knowledge that although the family may face disagreements, they continue to have close ties. Director Kathy Weber commented, "this show is very challenging for high school actors. It requires the cast to draw from their own life experiences to be sure they are giving authentic performances." Sometimes painful, sometimes humorous,  Close Ties portrays the complexity of relationships faced every day.
Night of Fine Dining & Theatre

On Friday, December 15, the Lake Park Educational Foundation will host an exciting evening of fine dining and theatre at Lake Park's East Campus.

Guests will enjoy an elegant 4-course holiday dinner prepared by Lake Park culinary students and reserved seating for the holiday classic, Miracle on 34th Street. Guests can also bid on a wide array of silent auction items throughout the dinner. Tickets are $35 per person and include dinner and the play. Reserve your tickets today!

Join the LPEF as they welcome special host and emcee for the evening: Roman from US99's Stylz & Roman! Justin Roman is a Lake Park graduate and a 2013 Distinguished Alumni award recipient.
