Good news! The new Wainwright building has passed health and safety inspections and been given the green light by the City of Fircrest to open on Monday, Dec. 5. Teachers will be moving in this weekend and we can't wait to welcome our fourth, fifth and sixth-graders into the new space on Monday. Thank you for your patience!

SNEAK PEEK OPPORTUNITIES
Families interested in getting a peek at the new building before Monday can join Planning and Construction Director Rob Sawatzky for a guided tour on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. or Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. There will also be a Monday morning tour opportunity for parents from 8 to 9 a.m. while students are taking part in a Welcome to Wainwright assembly. Please meet Rob at the building entrance (access from Alameda) at the tour start time if you're interested.

WHAT DOES DAY ONE LOOK LIKE?
Classes at Wainwright will start at 8 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., with breakfast beginning at 7:40 a.m. in the new Wainwright Commons area. Staff will be on hand to help make sure students know where to go.

To kick off the day, students will gather under the covered play area for regular morning line up with their teachers, then proceed together to the gym for a morning Welcome to Wainwright assembly. Afterward, teachers will lead students to their classrooms and orient them to the new space.

NEW BUS ROUTES & SCHEDULES
New bus route and schedules will be posted to the district's Transportation webpage on Thursday morning. We'll update you tomorrow!

DROP OFF INSTRUCTIONS
Beginning Monday, parents dropping off students should enter the new building's main entrance off of Alameda Avenue and stay to the right through the parking lot drop off loop. To help keep traffic flowing, please exit the drop off area by turning right out of the parking lot onto Alameda.

SIGN UP FOR YOUR PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE
Parents will get a chance to further explore the building and chat about their student's progress during Parent Teacher Conferences on Dec. 7, 8 and 9. Students are released at 11:15 a.m. on these days. Contact your child's teacher this week to schedule your time!

SAVE THE DATE AND CELEBRATE
A grand opening celebration is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, for families, alumni, and the community.

Because you asked

Why are we moving before Jan. 3?
After the construction delay was announced last spring, many families requested that the district do everything it can to move students into the new building prior to the Jan. 3 date if it was safe to do so. We have been working diligently toward trying to make that happen.

Why didn't you tell us sooner? Moving before Jan. 3 always meant a tight timeline and even after the bulk of construction was complete there were multiple health, safety and mechanical inspections happening over the last couple weeks that we had little control over regarding timing. W hile we had hoped to have a few more days of lead time up to the potential move-in, we also wanted to avoid false hopes of an early opening if we weren't certain.

Why Dec. 5? As part of trying to move in students as soon as safely possible, we also wanted to minimize impact to student learning. We selected the Dec. 5 date as an early opening opportunity because this Friday there is no school, which allowed teachers a long weekend to move, followed by a shortened week with several early dismissals for parent-teacher conferences. In the end though, it all depended on when the building passed inspections and got the OK from the City of Fircrest.
