Home of the Falcons!
"We Engage, Challenge, and Support Every Student, Every Day"
Principal's Message                                  December 16, 2016

I want to wish every family a restful, fun-filled holiday season. I want to thank the entire falcon family for a great start to the year and an amazing first semester. We are busy working on new ideas for next semester, and infusing more technology into our campus. With the addition of new programs, I feel that we are providing our students a unique, memorable experience. I look forward to next semester as we continue to strive to be innovative and create a culture of excellence.

AP Capstone Approved

Fountain Hills High School is one of approximately 1,000 approved schools worldwide to implement AP Capstone ™  an innovative diploma program that allows students to develop the skills that matter most for college success: research, collaboration, and communication. The program consists of two courses taken in sequence: AP ® Seminar and AP Research. Developed in direct response to feedback from higher education faculty and college admission officers, AP Capstone complements the in-depth, subject-specific study of other Advanced Placement ® courses and exams. We are pleased to offer the program next year, and we will have an upcoming information night for students and parents that are interested.

AVID Program Approved

Thanks to a generous donation from the Verne C. Johnson Family Foundation, FHHS will be implementing a new signature program, AVID. AVID stands for Achievement Via Individual Determination, and provides students who have the ability to attend a university the extra "push" they need to get there. The AVID course is an elective class for students who are college-bound. The AVID curriculum focuses on writing, inquiry, collaboration and reading (WICR) through the AVID High School curriculum in both teacher and tutor-led activities. While concurrently enrolled in a college-prep course of study, students learn strategies to enhance success. Note-taking, outlining, writing, speaking, reading, test-taking strategies, and self-awareness are stressed. In addition, the course includes college motivational activities and intensive preparation for ACT, SAT I and SAT II.

AP Statistics & Statistics

We are pleased to announce that FHHS will offer two new math courses next year, AP Statistics and Statistics. These courses will be offered as a complement to the AP Capstone program, as statistics are critical to the research requirement. The classes will also serve as an option for a fourth year of math for advanced math students.

AP Environmental Science

We are excited to offer AP Environmental Science next year as an advanced science course. This course will allow students to explore and investigate the interrelationships of the natural world, identify and analyze environmental problems, both natural and human-made, evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. The course will offer participation via hands-on, laboratory and field investigations to apply scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies in order to better understand our natural systems and to critically think about environmental issues and potential solutions.
Dance

Dance is back at FHHS for the 2017-18 school year! Former FHHS student, Gianna Levin has been offered a letter of intent to hire, and she has accepted. We are extremely excited to offer this course and provide our students the opportunity to continue their dance career in high school. Gianna is a fantastic, innovative teacher with big ideas, and will make an immediate, positive impact on our campus. Her love of dancing and of teaching makes her an exceptional hire for FHHS.
