by Anton Chekhov/Translated by Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky

TCG publishes the fifth title in our Classic Russian Drama series:  The Seagull  by Anton Chekhov.

The restored text, a product of the continuing collaboration of playwright Richard Nelson and translators Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky , provides valuable insight into Chekhov's intentions in his groundbreaking play.

This new translation for TCG's Russian Drama Series includes lines and variants found in Chekhov's final version of the play, but omitted from the script for the original performance at the Moscow Art Theatre in 1898, which went on to become the standard printed version.

These fabulous new titles come from our Partner Publishers  -- all of whom are distributed by TCG and can be found in our online bookstore.

Hedda Gabler & Sirens: Elektra in Bosnia a dual volume from Playwrights Canada Press that is alive with Judith Thompson's trademark grit and raw dialogue. These plays are contemporary reimaginings of  two controversial female protagonists in literature, and the marginalized voices of women in history.

Oil  from Nick Hern Books follows the lives of one woman and her daughter in an epic,  hurtling collision of empire, history and family. Ella Hickson's explosive play drills deep into the world's relationship with this finite resource.

The Virgin Trial  from Playwrights Canada Press is a gripping follow-up to The Last Wife, in which Kate Hennig continues her Tudor Queens Trilogy  by cleverly exploring victim shaming, sexual consent, and the extraordinary ability of girls becoming women as she reimagines the scandalous and little-known story of Elizabeth the First before she was Queen.
