November 23, 2016

Hello to all!  I hope this email finds you preparing the turkey or packing your bags for Thanksgiving.  The next few days are a great opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends.

The school year is off and running.  It always seems like school opens and the holidays arrive so quickly.   Even with just three months completed, our students and staff have many successes to report:

  • PRHS Girls Soccer captured the North 1 Group 1 Sectional title.  Congratulations to first year coach, Ms. Jaffe, and the rest of the Lady Owls on this tremendous accomplishment.
  • Sixth grade parents now have access to their child's grades via the PowerSchool parent portal.  Previously, this option was only available for students in Gr. 7-12
  • Exchange students from Germany completed a three week visit earlier in the month.  Thank you to all of the host families who opened their homes to this group of high school students.
  • All fourth graders began to take home their MacBook Air in September as part of our expanded 1:1 laptop program.  Currently, all students in Gr. 4-12 participate in this important preparation for college and beyond.
  • Last week, the Little Theater Players presented "All in the Timing," by David Ives.  This entertaining production showcased the talented members of the PRHS cast and crew.
  • All K-12 report cards will be available online at the end of the first quarter or trimester.  Feel free to access them via the parent portal in PowerSchool.  Starting with the second quarter or trimester, access to report cards will only be available online.
Given the time of year, I feel it is important to say "thank you" to the school community.  I find it extremely reassuring that the students, staff and parents in Park Ridge are deeply rooted in a sense of community with strong family values.  All members treat each other with respect and understanding, which results in a school district that celebrates our similarities and our differences.  As your Superintendent, this makes me very proud!

All the best to you and your family for an enjoyable Thanksgiving recess!

Sincerely,
Robert M. Gamper
Superintendent of Schools
