Inaugural Clay Shooting Classic a smashing success

Reinhardt's Inaugural Clay Shooting Classic held at Garland Mountain Sporting Clays on Friday was a smashing success. The event, including 18 teams of four, was the first of its kind at Reinhardt University raising money for student-athlete scholarships. The Top Gun Team included, from left, Slade Lowe, Ryker Lowe, Keith Smith and Mike Lowe. The first-place individual trophy went to Keith Smith, second place went to Mike Lowe and third place to Bill Mincey.

"Thank you to everyone who came out today to participate in this event. Everyone had a great time, and we did what we were there to do -- raise money for student-athlete scholarships," said Jeffrey Pourchier, assistant athletic director for advancement.

Five Reinhardt students will get hands-on experience in a local Congressional office this academic year.

Senior Allie Hale, junior Blake Hawthorne, freshman Hayden Lathren, senior Blake Marbut and junior Will Sizemore, will be interning with Congressman Barry Loudermilk's office. Some will start this fall, while others will intern in the spring.

"I'm ecstatic about getting this opportunity to intern for our Congressman," Hale said. "It's an amazing opportunity that not many people get the chance to go for. I'm excited for what I will learn and how it will help me grow."

Loudermilk's district director, Ceric Martin, and field representative John Wallace met with Dr. Kina Mallard to express their interest of having Reinhardt students join the Congressman's office as interns.   ...  Read More
Reinhardt faculty to perform recital this Sunday afternoon

Reinhardt faculty will host a Sunday matinee concert featuring an array of styles. Special guest Martha Jo Boston Carmichael Lingerfelt, class of 1938, will perform the piece she played in her senior recital.

The recital will be held Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m., at the Falany Performing Arts Center. The concert is free, and advanced tickets are not required.

"Once each semester, the Murray Department of Music presents members of its faculty and staff in concert, providing an opportunity for the community to experience the wealth of musical artistry Reinhardt University provides for its students," said Dr. Frederick Tarrant, dean of the School of Performing Arts and professor of music.

The event will feature professor Olivia Kieffer, Diliana Slavova, Brian Osborne, Matthew Anderson, Alison Holmes, Pamela Radford and Marcena Kinney.

According to Susan Naylor, assistant professor of music, the compositions range from Baroque to contemporary periods.

"The program begins with a Bach Toccata performed on harpsichord, and continues with 10 Short Pieces for Solo Vibraphone composed by Reinhardt professor Olivia Kieffer, a medley of contemporary vocal pieces, selections from Castillos de EspaƱa composer, Federico Torroba, played on guitar, Piano Sonata in B minor by Franz Liszt, a grouping of traditional spirituals and ends with the third movement of Scaramouche by Darius Milhaud for piano duo," Naylor said.
