SAFE FROM THE START    

Matt Tuttle representative for San Jose Fire Fighters who along with Supervisor Cindy Chavez have partnered with community leaders to once again sponsor this years "Safe from the Start" Halloween Safety Awareness Campaign.

This annual pedestrian safety campaign is organized by the Healthier Kids Foundation of Santa Clara County. They distribute glow necklaces for kids to wear on Halloween night as they Trick or Treat around the South Bay.




San Jose Fire Fighters from Engine 26 (Tully Rd) attended the Halloween Safety Event for District 7 at the George Shirakawa Community Center. In attendance was Councilmember Tam Nguyen and Mayor Sam Liccardo and members of the community.

Newark: Dalmatian alerts owner to fire
A breed of dog that historically has been a mascot of fire houses saved the day when it alerted its owner to a house fire here.
Bella, a 10-year-old Dalmatian, sounded the alarm - figuratively speaking - when the washing machine in a home in the 37000 block of Starflower Street caught fire, filling the garage with brown smoke.    East Bay Times

This years Muscle Walk was held at Lake Cunningham Park in East San Jose. Fire Fighters from Engine 21 (S. White Rd.) stopped by to encourage all of the participants and their families at this great MDA sponsored event.      
 
4-Alarm Fire in San Francisco's Castro District Displaces Seven, Injures Three Firefighters

San Francisco Fire spokesman John Baxter said the blaze was under control at 2 a.m., about two hours after it broke out at 27 Hattie Street. One firefighter was taken to the hospital, he said, and two others were treated and released at the scene. Luckily, he said, none of the displaced residents were hurt. (video)     NBC Bay Area

Helmet cameras take public inside burning buildings with firefighters
Firefighters learn in the academy to avoid standing near windows and doors because if a fire is being suppressed on one end, it is going to escape out of another like it did in this case.  Having a video of it actually happening reinforces the point. (video)    Modesto Bee

  
Firefighter Injured at Sacramento House Fire
A Sacramento Metro firefighter has been injured at a house fire on Bradshaw Road.  He received minor burn injuries to is body and has been transported to the hospital.  There was no on home at the time of the incident but unfortunately two dogs were killed in the fire.     FOX 40

Boulder firefighter Tom Albert in long battle back from injuries
It was supposed to be a routine training session for Tom Albert, who has been fighting fires for 25 years.
What started out as just a drill turned into a real-life emergency when an accident with a fire hose threw Albert into the air, causing life-altering injuries that Albert has been battling since that day.

Two firefighters were rescued after falling through a stairwell in a burning home, and a third firefighter was shocked after coming into contact with lives wires.

10.29.16 Mt. Diablo                                                  Station 21

Full First alarm for a structure fire.  Battalion 2 requested a 2nd alarm assignment due to 3 subjects still reported to be inside the residence.  10 minutes later the 2nd alarm was cancelled, and after 15 minutes all occupants were accounted for.  PGE was requested to secure the utilities, and SJPD for traffic control.  One patient was transported to a local hospital after being rescued by SJFD personnel.

10.20.16 Technology Drive                           Station 5
Fire Communications dispatched Engine 5 with HIT29 to monitor for reports of an employee having trouble breathing after opening a package with an unidentified plastic bag inside.  An ambulance task force for standby was ordered as a precaution.  Employees in the building were evacuated, and the hazard was contained to the 3rd floor parking lot.  Decontamination took place inside of the building using on site showers before the two patients were transported to the hospital.
