E-News and E-Prayer from Camp Jonah
December 2016
Where Kids Laugh, Hearts Change and God Smiles
Most of the time when asked, "How are you," we all lie and say, "I'm fine." Most of the time we're not truly fine. If we're being honest, we would talk about family or health or financial issues. As I laid out my list before the Lord this morning, he brought me to some scriptures that were so encouraging. A little bit later, I found myself humming the old hymn, "Count Your Many Blessings." What great lyrics! Click here to listen and be encouraged. And I challenge you to start counting. Make a family journal or jar and add things throughout the day that you're thankful for. This would be a fantastic way to blend Thanksgiving and Christmas. What a gift to God and each other if we can become Blessings Counters. Our Camp Jonah staff is grateful for YOU!

PRAY-ERS NEEDED

Recognizing that God is our Camp Director and desiring to seek His will, we are building a strong prayer team. If you'd like to be part of this team, please click here and type
"I'll Pray!" in the subject line. We'll be in contact with you. In the meantime, each month we'll be sending with the E-News a calendar of prayer items. Click here to see the December Prayer Calendar and consider praying daily for this ministry. Thank you!

THE YEAR OF THE PEOPLE

Our Board of Directors has decided to claim 2017 as The Year of the People!Sometimes we find ourselves swallowed up by projects. We will still be working on projects this year, but we want to be laser-focused on people more than anything. After all, camp is all about people and you are very important to us. Please let us know how you would like to be involved in 2017. Click here to send us an email.
THE CRAFT GETAWAY - CHANGE IS GOOD

Change may sometimes be necessary, but it's not always easy. It was not easy for us to make the decision to only offer one Craft Getaway each year (October 12-15, 2017), so register early! However, there are some good changes, too: we are now offering shop space if you want to work on large projects and we've added an Upscale Clothing exchange. We hope to see you crafting with us in October and we'd really love for you to consider joining us April 21-24, 2017 for Made to Thrive, our women's spiritual growth seminar. So many good things to choose from!
RUN FOR THE CAMPERS

Calling all runners-and all
people who have a heart to get campers to camp! Our Run For The Campers 5K Obstacle Run is on Saturday, May 27th, 2017. Mark your calendars, put together a fun group, and come have fun running (or walking) together as you realize that all the proceeds are for 2017 Summer Camp Scholarships!
WHO WE ARE - Just in case you were wondering

"Camp Jonah exists to be, live and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through unique camp and retreat experiences." At Camp Jonah our goals are to partner with other ministries, be available and active in our community, say yes as often as we can, encourage spiritual next steps and growth opportunities, provide opportunities to instill the wonder of creation, be affordable and generous, keep telling the miracles of our history, be unique in our programming, keep safety top priority, be experiential in our teaching and worship, preach and uphold the Word of God in its entirety and inerrancy.
A FEW THINGS WE'RE LOOKING INTO

       1) Tender Warrior Project - Our pilot TWP retreat was held here in October with a small group of military families. What an amazing opportunity to serve those who have served us through their time in the US military. So many needs and such ripe, deep times together as families. Click here to send us an email if you're interested in being part of this. We're looking for participants and for funds to bless these families.
       2) Foster Child Camp Opportunities - How fun to receive an email in the middle of summer from a man inquiring about starting a committee of local people who have a heart for foster kids-and working hard to help get these kids to camp! If you're in the Mid-Columbia area and you'd like to be on this committee, please click here to let me know!
       3) Outdoor School - Jonah began 20 years ago with a heart to get kids out into the wilderness. With schools now realizing the importance of this kind of education, we're spending time looking into this opportunity. Stay tuned to see what we find out...
FAMILY WINTER WEEKEND!

We have an unusual opening this winter and so we want to invite you to bring your family for a laid-back weekend January 27-29!!! We will feed you and house you and provide some fun (snowy?) activities. You show up with the kids, pay what you can when you arrive, and let's have some fun together. A family event in January could be one of the best memories your family will ever have. Click here to chat with Beki about possibilities for housing, etc. You will need to reserve your space soon. Hmm. Maybe this could be a Christmas gift to someone???
E-Prayer:
Recently, out of the blue, I began humming the old hymn, "...Count your many blessings, name them one-by-one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done..." God is reminding me that counting blessings pleases him so much more than grumbling and worrying. Want to join me in listing gifts this Christmas season?!
Thank you for your prayers:
  1. Father, thank you for the privilege of joining with Camp Morrow to sell Christmas Trees in Hood River. Thank you that it's been a successful season so far and you've given us this fun way to get kids to camp!
  2. Thank you for showing up for our first men's Spiritual Growth Seminar (Construct) last weekend. Although a small group, big things happened. Would you continue to speak to the men in attendance as they ponder what they learned and begin to apply these truths to their lives?
  3. We invite you, Holy Spirit, into the planning, attendance, final details, and attendees for our upcoming middle school Winter AMP! Will you fill our beds with happy campers and help the program to be fun as well as life-changing?
  4. Thank you so much for our year-round staff. We feel very blessed to have a strong, united team. Thank you that we enjoy each other and work well together.
  5. Thank you for being our Camp Director and overseeing each fine detail of this camp. Help us to listen to you and to follow your leading.
  6. While we have a pretty busy work schedule, there are also family needs. Father, would you help us to balance work and family? We pray especially for health (Jeff's mom and Beki's mom) and healing (Julianne's arms).
  7. As we work on our 2017 budget, we see the need to finish the year strong financially. We trust you and thank you for 20 years of amazing provision.
  8. Father, help us to balance the many projects that stare us in the face daily. May your will be done here at Camp Jonah as it is in heaven!
  9. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with us. Show us how, when and where you want us to be your instruments of peace.
Needs:
We are purchasing a new office printer. We need about $300 to buy the printer and ink.
We have replaced many of our dorm mattresses, but need 30 more at $150 each.
