DMMC Municipal Innovation Celebration 
 
Congratulations to the City of Elmhurst for winning "Best Innovation" at DMMC's fourth annual Municipal Innovation Celebration.  During the Celebration, Mayor Steve Morley and Fire Chief Tom Freeman presented Elmhurst's innovation, a new advanced life support (ALS) Rapid Response Vehicle that enhances existing ALS service provided by two ambulances.  The vehicle, a 2017 Ford Explorer, is known as Rescue 1 and staffed around the clock by Elmhurst Fire Department paramedics.  The Rapid Response Vehicle is used to address delays in paramedics arriving on the scene of requests for medical assistance when both ambulances are already on calls and out of service.  Elmhurst noted that the Rapid Response Vehicle reduces paramedic-to-patient contact time, eliminates the need for major apparatus to respond to all calls for medical service, and allows paramedic-staff ambulances to return to service faster, thereby making them available for subsequent calls.  
 
Congratulations are also due to the Village of Schaumburg for winning "Best Presentation."  Karyn Robles, Director of Transportation, and Peter Schaak, Director of Information Technology, charmed the audience with a video spoofing the comedy series "The Office."  The video featured Schaumburg staff and introduced the Village's interactive Traffic Dashboard, which was developed to improve access to data on customer service requests, traffic volumes, and accidents.
 
We thank both winners and the other municipalities that participated in the Celebration-Aurora, Bartlett, Lisle, Naperville, and Woodridge-for sharing their valuable and insightful innovations to the benefit of municipalities throughout DuPage.
Coffee Break With Legislators 
 
Members and Local Legislators Talk Over Coffee
 
The Conference hosted a tremendously successful Coffee Break on October 11, where members and legislators discussed topics of mutual interest and importance to DuPage municipalities and their residents over coffee.  The casual open house was well attended despite rainy conditions and heavy traffic.  We are grateful to our members and legislators for joining us and would especially like to thank House Republican Leader Jim Durkin; Representatives Patti Bellock, Stephanie Kifowit, Michelle Mussman, David Olsen, and Christine Winger; and Senators Cristina Castro, Michael Connelly, Tom Cullerton, John Curran, Don Harmon, Linda Holmes, and Laura Murphy. 
DMMC Welcomes New Members

The Conference welcomes Alex Alexandrou, Paula Schumacher, Doug Pollock, and welcomes back Carie Anne Ergo. Bringing experience, talent, and expertise, we look forward to working with them.  
 
Alex Alexandrou - City of Aurora

Alex Alexandrou has been appointed Chief Management Officer of the City of Aurora. Mr. Alexandrou has been with Aurora for 17 years, serving most recently as Chief Administrative Services Officer. Previously, he served as the City's Risk Manager, Human Resources Director, and Chief Labor Negotiator with the City's labor unions.


Prior to working for the City of Aurora, Mr. Alexandrou was with the Village of Oak Park for ten years. Mr. Alexandrou will serve as a member of the Conference's 2017-2018 Board of Directors and Managers Committee. 
Paula Schumacher - Village of Bartlett 

The Bartlett Village Board has announced the promotion of Paula Schumacher to Village Administrator. Ms. Schumacher started as an administrative intern 25 years ago. She was later promoted to administrative assistant and then to Assistant Village Administrator in 2001. "During her 25 years at village hall, Paula has maintained an appreciation for Bartlett's rich history while developing a clear and innovative vision for the future," Village President Kevin Wallace said.
 
Ms. Schumacher, is a member of the Conference's 2017-2018 Managers Committee.
Doug Pollock - Village of Burr Ridge 

Doug Pollock has been appointed Village Administrator for the Village of Burr Ridge. Mr. Pollock brings over three decades of municipal experience to the position, having served as the Village's Community Development Director since 1995, the Assistant Director of Community Development for the Village of Lombard, and Senior Planner for the City of Indianapolis.   

In addition to his responsibilities in Burr Ridge, Mr. Pollock is a member of the Conference's 2017-2018 Managers Committee and Regulatory Issues Committee as well as a Trustee for the Village of Riverside.      
Carie Anne Ergo - Village of Itasca 

The Itasca Board of Directors has appointed Carie Anne Ergo Village Administrator. Equipped with a vast knowledge of municipal government, Ms. Ergo will bring extensive experience to the position. Prior to her appointment, she served as Chief Management Officer, Assistant Chief of Staff, and Chief Public Information Officer for the City of Aurora. 
 
Ms. Ergo has also served the Conference as a member of the Board of Directors, Managers Committee, and Regulatory Issues Committee.       
Village of Oak Brook Hosts 9/11 Healing Field
 
Each year the Village of Oak Brook holds a memorial ceremony honoring the fallen individuals of September 11, 2001. This year the Village hosted the True Patriots Care Foundation's Healing Field flag display. 2,976 American flags were posted in perfect rows and columns as a tribute to those killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
 
The schedule of events began on Thursday, September 7, and included daily programs with participation from veterans, community organizations, and school groups. Guest speakers included Don Basco, Executive Director, American Pride, Inc. and World Trade Center 9/11 survivor; Ryan Yantis, Vice President of Education and Outreach, American Pride, Inc. and Pentagon 9/11 Survivor; Illinois State Representative Patricia Bellock; and Congressman Peter Roskam.

Giving DuPage - Do GOOD
 
DuPage County and Giving DuPage have launched the largest service project in County history. Do GOOD DuPage a year-long initiative promoting community service throughout the County.  Municipal, business, faith and community leaders are challenging everyone to sign up, do good deeds, share the experience and get others involved. Activities include volunteering, donating items, creating awareness for local causes or celebrating Do-GOODers. DuPage County Animal Care and Control - Cat-Pacity Adoption 
 
All cats 6 months and over will have their adoption fee waived through the end of October, all thanks to the DuPage Animal Friends Foundation.
 
Kittens can be adopted for only $115 including microchip registration.
 
All feline adoptions include: spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, microchip registration, FIV, and Feline leukemia test.

SPC Awards Dodge Charger Contract Extension with Lower Prices!
 
The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) Governing Board has awarded the second of three possible, one-year contract extensions to Napleton Fleet Group of Oakbrook Terrace, IL for the 2018 Model Year Dodge Charger Pursuit Vehicle (Contract #149). 

The following are the price reductions from the 2017 model year:
 
Base Car with standard V6 Engine and standard Rear Wheel Drive is $513 less than 2017.
Base Car with V8 Engine option and standard Rear Wheel Drive is also $513 less than 2017.
Base Car with V8 Engine and All Wheel Drive options is $819 less than 2017.

This is the most common configuration ordered on the SPC contract.
