The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced on Friday that job growth in November was 178,000 jobs, right on target with expectations and the monthly average for the year-to-date. Construction was one of the leading sectors, adding 19,000 jobs to reach a post-recession high. Wage growth in November was flat, following a 0.4% increase in October, but year-over-year wage growth was 2.5%.

The report on October construction spending released on December 1 showed a continuation of the year-long trend higher in non-residential spending and the decline in infrastructure spending, although public spending in October was up 2.8% from September. Construction of non-residential structures was up 7.7% from Jan-Oct and residential spending was up 5.5% year-to-date. Those gains pushed year-to-date gains in total construction spending 4.5% higher, to $1.173 trillion.
